Nigerian Government to Arraign 76 Protesters, Including 66 Minors, Over Protests

The Nigerian government is set to arraign 76 individuals, most of them minors, in connection with the protests. According to activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, 66 of the protesters are minors and have been held in detention for almost 80 days. They are scheduled to appear before Hon. Justice Egwuatu at the Federal High Court in Abuja on November 1, 2024.

The protests, which took place from August 1 to 10, 2024, were organized by Nigerians expressing their dissatisfaction with bad governance. Adeyanju criticized the government’s response, referring to it as "clueless" and questioning the decision to prosecute minors.

Billionaire Adedeji Adeleke Claims to Generate 15% of Nigeria’s Electricity, Set to Complete Nation’s Largest Power Plant

Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, billionaire businessman and father of music star Davido, has revealed that his ventures currently generate 15% of Nigeria’s electricity supply. Speaking at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council 2024, Adeleke also disclosed that he is on track to complete a 1,250-megawatt thermal power plant, set to become the largest in the country by January 2024.

Adeleke recounted facing resistance from government officials during the approval process for environmental reasons but credited divine intervention for the project's progress. Despite setbacks, the $2 billion project is nearing completion and expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s electricity capacity.

He acknowledged the role of his Chinese partners and international financiers, emphasizing that the successful approval by the then Minister of Power came through both persistence and prayer.

Dabiri-Erewa called the situation "despicable" and a violation of diplomatic protocols, urging both the Nigerian government and CAF to intervene to ensure the players' safety.

"Two-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos, No Casualties Reported"

A two-storey building collapsed early Monday morning on Amusu Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos State. The incident occurred at around 8:45 am.

Mr. Nosa Okunbor, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the collapse, stating that there were no casualties.

LASEMA Response Teams were immediately deployed to the scene for search and rescue operations. Further updates on the situation are expected.

Nigerian artist Speed Darlington was released on bail after being detained for five days following his arrest in Lagos, later transferred to Abuja. His arrest stemmed from a defamation and cyberstalking complaint filed by Burna Boy. The complaint was related to a viral video where Darlington questioned Burna Boy's Grammy win and his connection to rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs. Darlington's mother pleaded publicly for Burna Boy to forgive her son. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed Darlington's release, praising the professionalism of the police involved.

VeryDarkMan Declines EFCC Invitation, Calls for Abuja Investigation

Activist and social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has refused to honor an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos. The invitation was tied to allegations he made against the agency involving social media celebrity, Bobrisky.

VeryDarkMan previously shared an audio recording in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed he paid N15 million to have money laundering charges dropped. In response, the EFCC invited both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to assist in their investigation.

However, Otse, citing concerns about his safety, stated he would not travel to Lagos, as he resides elsewhere and prefers the investigation be conducted at EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja. He also expressed distrust in the agency’s handling of the case, adding that Bobrisky should be the one invited to Abuja for the inquiry.

Bobrisky has denied the allegations, calling the audio recording fake.
