Odinmma ORSU Initiative: The Covenant of Those Who Stayed, Sacrificed, and Saved a Constituency*
A Democracy Day Address by Hon. Uchenna Osigwe (OBODO)
*Democracy Day, June 12, 2026*
Fellow sons and daughters of ORSU,
For five unbroken years---from 2021 to 2025, our people endured a reign of terror, not mere insecurity, but a sustained, coordinated brutality that sought to erase the very soul of ORSU.
This address belongs entirely to ORSU, her wounds, her warriors, and her triumphant restoration.
*The Years That Tried Our Souls*
There was a time, not so long ago, when ORSU became a theatre of terror. When the night brought dread, not rest. When our people fled from ancestral homesteads they had occupied for generations. When markets fell silent, schools emptied, and the sound of gunfire replaced the laughter of children.
Those were years that tried the very soul of our constituency.
I remember those years with painful clarity, because I lived them alongside you, though in a manner I did not choose. As the Transition Committee Chairman of ORSU when this brutality descended upon us, I became a marked man. Some resolved that I must not live to see ORSU's restoration. I was made a target. I retreated, not in cowardice, *but in strategic wisdom, so that I could serve ORSU more effectively from behind the scenes. And serve I did, with everything within me, quietly, persistently, at great personal risk, because ORSU's survival was worth more than my comfort or my visibility.*
I do not say this to seek sympathy. I say it so that you know: every sacrifice made for ORSU, I understand. I have felt it.
*Honouring the Fallen and the Displaced*
On this Democracy Day, I pause to remember, with a heavy heart, every son and daughter of ORSU who lost their life to the reign of terror that engulfed our land. They did not die in vain. Their memory is the foundation upon which this renewed ORSU is being built.
ORSU has not forgotten you. I have not forgotten you.
*The Heroes of Our Restoration: The Odinmma ORSU Initiative*
And yet, ORSU did not surrender.
Today, it is my highest honour and my most sacred duty to pay tribute to the actors of the *Odinmma ORSU Initiative,* those extraordinary men who refused to accept that ORSU's story would end in defeat. Working in concert with the Imo State Government, they mounted a sustained, courageous, and ultimately triumphant campaign to restore normalcy to our constituency.
These are not paper heroes. These are individuals who put their bodies, their reputations, and in some cases their lives on the line for ORSU. When others despaired, they strategised. When others fled, they stood firm. When the enemies of our community believed they had won, the Odinmma ORSU Initiative, alongside a committed government, proved them catastrophically wrong.
To every one of them: ORSU sees you. History will remember you. I salute you.
*Our Duty as Beneficiaries of Peace*
Peace is not a gift — it is a responsibility. We who are beneficiaries of the enormous sacrifice that restored ORSU's tranquillity carry an obligation heavier than we sometimes acknowledge. We must protect this peace. We must refuse to be instruments of any agenda that would plunge ORSU back into darkness. We must hold our leaders accountable and ensure that the development dividends of security actually reach our people.
The enemies of ORSU's progress are on notice. Crime has no ethnicity, no political colour, no sacred ground in this constituency. Together, unified across clan, kindred, and community, we shall ensure that what we have regained is never lost again.
Thank you. God bless ORSU. God bless Imo State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
*HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY, Ndi ORSU*
