I remember when all that mattered to me was my passion to bake and create art works with my caking skills.😁 As a self-taught cakist, I grew strong in my art by focusing on honing my skills. This right here is a picture of my first ever decorated cake that I made for my school guardian, Late Mrs. Grace Openiyi, in 2001. She was a remarkable woman who adopted and mothered many of us, with so much love from her large heart.
Through the many eras and evolution of the industry, there have been many times that I was tempted to give up on caking and cakistry. As a matter of fact, I left it and went into teaching Montessori for a period of 1 to 2 years. But my love for the craft could not be subdued. So, I took it up once again.
In life, the glitz and glamour of the success of any field of endeavour may entice you to pursue it, but it is the passion you have for it that will make you stay on that path, success or no success. With determination, your passion will eventually translate into the much desired success.
However, one important factor that shortens the translation of passion to success is SUPPORT. Many small businesses die along the way when the much needed support and guidance to navigate through difficulties is unavailable. Trust me when I say I have been there. It's this awareness that has inspired me to translate the wealth of my experience and knowledge base into a support service for bakers - the Bakery Business and Process Consultancy.
Winston Churchill once said, "Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." In other words, we must learn to continue striving towards the ultimate goals we have set and encourage ourselves to take advantage of any opportunity that will help us in our pursuit.
