Mute Efe wrote this post for high capacity people. I think it is worth reading👇
CAUTION: This is for high-capacity people.
The first time I was introduced to the concept of goal-setting I was taught to set goals in different areas of my life.
The result was about 30 to 40 goals that needed to be achieved.
Nobody told me that each goal you set was like a bag of cement on your head.
Even worse than that, nobody told me there was a concept called Planning that must accomplish each goal.
All I knew was specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound.
Oya na.
So, here I was carrying 40 bags of cement that I called goals with no idea what to do with them.
The result? Weighed down, burnt out, and unable to breathe.
Help, I can't breathe.
That is the state of many people today. You set too many goals only to be weighed down by the same goals you have set for yourself.
There is someone in the consulting room right now telling the doctor that his body is just doing him somehow.
They have carried out different tests and are still unable to find anything wrong.
Some of these issues are caused by invisible weights that we carry.
Every goal you set has a weight tag. It becomes an invisible weight that you carry and it is only lifted when that goal is achieved.
That is why it is dangerous to set too many goals. Especially when you are still new to the concept of goal-setting. You will only get weighed down.
Many people are reading this right now who are on this table. You wake up from bed with palpitations.
You were in bed for 7 hours but you woke up tired. Because all night, your mind was busy figuring out how to go about the 57 goals you set at the beginning of the year.
Your goals are too heavy for you to carry.
Every goal you set needs a plan. And planning is work as you will find out in my soon-coming book, January is not for Planning.
While there are no rules as to how many goals you should set as individual capacity differs, it is better to feel the satisfaction of setting three goals and achieving all three than setting twenty goals only to still achieve three.
Goal-setting does not give you bragging rights. There is no glory in telling us you have 20 goals you want to achieve this year.
Anybody can come up with a list of goals they want to achieve. The problem is in planning for each of those goals.
Goals don't achieve themselves. It takes a good plan to achieve any goal.
In the book, January is not for Planning, which will be out on the 25th of November, I talked about this issue and recommended that you set goals in a few areas that you know will have the greatest impact on your life.
Then you should let other areas of your life run on auto-pilot. I also explained the concept of auto-pilot. There are some areas of your life where things are going well. You don't need to change anything just yet.
When you do this, you will have the energy to channel to the few areas where you have set goals. This way, you won't feel overweighed and spent.
Have you been in this situation where you were literally weighed down by your goals?
Are you in that place right now feeling spent and burnt out because of your unending to-do list?
You can share your experience with us by posting a comment.
Also, my recommendation to you is that you preorder my soon-coming book, January is not for Planning. It is the solution you seek. It is the answer to your prayers.
