Throwback to Ifetunde's Introduction Ceremony (2024).

It was a Friday. I left work straight for the event because the introduction was scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
At the time, I was five months pregnant with my second baby, and honestly, I felt so sick that day. Till I got to the venue, I couldn't eat anything.
But one thing about me? The moment the talking drums start rolling, the energy must show up! 😄
As if that wasn't enough, I forgot my shoes at home and couldn't get anyone to tie my gele, so I simply said, "Ṣùmọ́ orí ni!" (Tie the gele anyhow on your head) 🤣

Despite everything, the event was beautifully coordinated. And guess what? A year later, I had the privilege of being their Alaga for their engagement ceremony. God truly writes beautiful stories.

One thing I've learned is this: even in my lowest moments, I show up for my work and give it my very best, like my life depends on it... because, in a way, it does.
Why am I sharing this story? I honestly don't know. 😅
Maybe it's simply to return all the glory to God for His grace upon the LADYMIDEALAGA brand. His faithfulness has carried me through every season.

GRADUATION IS DIFFERENT FROM INDUCTION

Yesterday marks another significant milestone in my journey as an Alaga. I was officially inducted into the Alaga Industry alongside numerous distinguished professionals, including many veterans who have been practicing this noble profession long before I was born.

After sharing photos and videos from the event, many people reached out to congratulate me and asked if I had just graduated. I truly appreciate the love and support, but I thought it was important to clarify the difference between graduation and induction.

I graduated from my Boss seven years ago after completing the required training and apprenticeship. That graduation marked the beginning of my professional journey as an Alaga.

This induction, however, is something entirely different. It is a professional recognition and formal admission into the Alaga Industry—an acknowledgment of years of active practice, experience, and commitment to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage.

The Alaga Industry Induction is a new initiative that began only last year. It was established to unify professionals, raise the standard of practice, preserve our rich Yoruba tradition, and provide Alagas with a collective voice under one recognized professional body.

To qualify for induction, an Alaga must:
• Complete a minimum of two years of professional training under a qualified mentor.
• Have at least five years of active professional practice after graduation.
• Be 30 years of age or older.

This initiative is setting a new standard for professionalism, accountability, and excellence within our industry. It is also a way of honoring those who have dedicated themselves to the growth and preservation of the Alaga profession.

If you have been practicing as an Alaga for over five years and meet the eligibility requirements, I encourage you to prepare for the next induction exercise and become part of this growing movement.

I am deeply grateful to God for this privilege and honored to stand among the exceptional professionals inducted today. May this achievement inspire greater excellence and stronger unity within our profession.
