KAMU
In traditional wedding ceremonies in Northern Nigeria, particularly among the Hausa-Fulani people, Kamu is a significant pre-wedding event. The word Kamu means "catch" or "seize" in Hausa, symbolizing the bride being officially handed over to the groom’s family.

What Happens at the Kamu Ceremony?
Negotiation & Symbolism: The groom’s family symbolically “pays” to “capture” the bride from her family. This represents the final stage of securing the bride after the dowry (Sadaki) has been paid.

Music & Celebration: The event is accompanied by traditional music, dancing, and cultural performances.

Henna & Beauty Rituals: The bride is adorned with henna and traditional attire, often wearing luxurious fabrics like lace or adire.

Blessings & Advice: Elder women from both families give advice to the bride on marriage, family, and responsibilities.

Food & Gifts: Guests are served local delicacies such as fura da nono, suya, and tuwo shinkafa, while gifts are exchanged.

The Kamu ceremony is an important cultural tradition that strengthens family bonds and prepares the bride for her new life.
