What could possibly gather thousands of fishermen in one location, one would wonder. Witnessing and documenting the Argungu Festival feels like something straight out of a movie.

The Argungu Festival is one of Africa’s oldest and most celebrated cultural gatherings. Held in Kebbi State, Nigeria, the festival attracts fishermen and visitors from across the country and neighbouring West African nations, including the Benin Republic, Niger, Togo and beyond. At the heart of it all is the legendary fishing competition, where thousands of men storm the river in pursuit of one thing, the biggest catch.

The contest is timed, making every second count. Using mostly traditional fishing methods, participants battle skill, speed and endurance to secure the largest fish possible. Beyond the thrill lies prestige, as winners are rewarded with cash prizes, cars and other major rewards.

At the 2026 edition, the biggest fish caught weighed an impressive 59kg. The winner, Abubakar Usman, walked away with ₦1 million and two Toyota vehicles - a moment that crowned him champion of the festival.

With tens of thousands of people in attendance, the Argungu Festival is far more than a fishing contest. It is a powerful display of culture, courage and Northern Nigeria’s rich heritage. From the markets and museums to the music, traditional performances and hospitality around town, the experience stretches far beyond the riverbanks. Reports from recent editions recorded over 50,000 fishermen and massive crowds of spectators, making it one of Africa’s most remarkable cultural spectacles.

This is a festival worth witnessing. The thrill, the energy and the tradition behind it leave a lasting impression.

When we epitomize a place of pure richness in Africa, we speak of the Central African Republic. Documenting this nation opened our eyes to the depth of what it truly carries - its people, wildlife, untouched nature, the breathtaking Boali waterfalls, vibrant markets, culture, technology, agriculture and the natural resources that quietly power industries across the world.

A tour through the Central African Republic leaves you in awe. It is home to some of the richest pockets of biodiversity, not just in Africa, but globally. Beyond its beauty, the nation is blessed with immense mineral wealth, especially diamonds and gold, resources of undeniable global value.

To invest in the Central African Republic is to invest in the future of Africa itself. This is a nation built on richness, resilience, culture, and possibility.

This is the Central African Republic, made for true richness.

People often hear “voodoo” and instantly think of myths and fear.

But in Ouidah, Benin, the Vodun Festival tells a completely different story.

Every January 10, the city comes alive with rhythm, colour, and powerful masquerades as people gather to honour ancestors, spirits, and tradition. Sacred drumming, dance, and ceremonies create an atmosphere that is both cultural and deeply spiritual.

It is history, spirituality, identity, and heritage all in one.

What stands out the most is how deeply rooted it is in community, healing, protection, and respect for nature.

It also attracts foreign tourists, pilgrims, and culture lovers from different parts of the world who come to witness its beauty, history, and spiritual depth firsthand.

For many, it is more than a celebration, it is a way of preserving heritage and keeping an ancient belief system alive in a modern world.

A beautiful reminder that not everything should be understood through stereotypes.

Some traditions are living history.
