If you've never made buns before, don't worry! I'll take you through every step in the simplest way possible.
Ingredients You Need
Before we start, gather these ingredients:
2 cups of flour (plain, all-purpose flour)
ΒΌ cup of sugar (or to your taste)
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 pinch of salt
Β½ cup of milk (or water)
1 egg (for richness, but optional)
2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence (optional, for flavor)
Oil for frying (vegetable oil or any frying oil)
Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients
1. Take a big bowl and add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
2. Mix them together using a spoon or your hands to make sure everything is combined.
Step 2: Add the Wet Ingredients
1. Add butter or margarine into the flour mixture. Use your hands to rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs.
2. Crack in one egg and mix it well.
3. Add milk (or water) little by little while mixing. Keep stirring until you get a thick but slightly sticky batter.
4. Add vanilla essence for extra flavor.
Step 3: Prepare for Frying
1. Heat the oil in a deep pan on medium heat. The oil should be hot but not too hot, or the buns will burn outside and remain raw inside.
2. Test the oil by dropping a tiny bit of the batter. If it bubbles and floats, it's ready.
Step 4: Fry the Buns
1. Use your hands or a spoon to scoop small portions of the batter and drop them gently into the hot oil.
2. Fry in batches so they donβt stick together.
3. Turn them around gently using a spoon so they cook evenly.
4. Fry until they turn golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
5. Remove the buns and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!
Your sweet buns are ready to eat! Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy with tea, juice, or just as a snack!
Extra Tips for Perfect Buns
β Don't make the batter too watery β It should be thick, like soft dough.
β Use medium heat β Too hot will burn them outside, too low will make them absorb oil.
β Add nutmeg or cinnamon if you want extra flavor.
β Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven or microwave.
