Voter Registration at Snail's Pace

The supplementary registration of voters for the November 2025 Regional Council and Local Authority elections kicked off last week and is seemingly going steady but slow.

According to Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) officials at the ECN office in Swakopmund, which is also a registration point, the first two days saw only 36 people registering to vote. The supplementary registration is primarily targeting residents who might not have been able to register last year, residents that were not eligible to vote last year, residents whose registration cards might been damaged or lost, and residents who've moved to other local authority constituencies.

A total of 213 registration points is available for the Erongo region. Registrations kicked off on 4 August and will be ongoing until 19 August. On 26 November Namibians will be back at the polls to partake in the national Regional Council and Local Authority Elections.
