There are two stories about this beautiful monument! ❤
The Portuguese believed that the monument was made to honor all those who died during the First World War.
However, the local legend tells another story. Long before that, there was a snake in the area above a tree that attacked anyone passing by.
One day a woman decided to put an end to the situation. She cooked a pot of porridge and carried it on a cauldron on her head, balancing it on a “capulana”.
With the porridge still warm, she began to walk towards the tree where the snake was hiding. The fearsome snake attacking the woman, entered the cauldron of the porridge, and died burned by the heat of the porridge.
The wise woman returned to her community, with the dead snake, and they all celebrated her courage.
For the Mozambican people, this statue exalts the role of all women, being dubbed the Statue Of Mozambican Women. 🇲 💪
