KTAR 2026 wraps up second edition, spotlights Kawang as community tourism hub.

The Kawang Adventure Tropical Race (KTAR) 2026 concluded its second edition on 11–12 July, drawing adventure sports enthusiasts from across Malaysia while showcasing Kaiduan and Bolitikon as emerging Community-Based Tourism destinations in Sabah.

The event, Sabah's only locally organised multi-discipline adventure race, recorded a 20 percent rise in participation from its inaugural edition, with 21 Adventure Race teams, 102 runners in the 21KM Trail Run and 66 in the 5KM Fun Trail Run competing across Trail Running, SUP, Mountain Biking and Orienteering.

Men's Team honours went to BT Ninety (M. Azri B. M. Chung and Azizan B. Ayub), while KBS Adventure Racing Team (Suhaimi Mohamddin and Norazrin Kamsor) topped the Mixed Team category.

Race Director Auther Kimon said Kawang's natural landscape offered the ideal setting for the race while promoting community-based tourism through meaningful engagement with locals.

Penyertaan bukan sahaja melibatkan peserta dari seluruh Sabah, malah turut disertai wakil dari Labuan, Sarawak dan Semenanjung Malaysia, sekali gus mengukuhkan kedudukan KTAR sebagai antara acara sukan pengembaraan yang semakin mendapat perhatian di peringkat kebangsaan.

Pengarah Perlumbaan, Auther J. Kimon berkata, KTAR bukan sekadar platform pertandingan sukan lasak, sebaliknya menjadi medium mempromosikan pelancongan komuniti di samping mengeratkan kerjasama antara pelbagai pihak dalam membangunkan sektor pelancongan dan ekonomi setempat.
