Eid is one of the happiest and most joyful celebrations for the Maldivian local community. It is a special time when everyone comes together with family and friends, visits islands, shares happiness, and enjoys the festive spirit together.

One of the most anticipated parts of Eid on our island is the community stage show. Weeks before Eid, local women, men, and teenagers come together to practice cultural dances and performances, preparing to entertain the entire community.

What makes these shows truly special is that the performers are the islanders themselves, proudly sharing their talents and traditions. Dressed in beautiful cultural attire, they create a family-friendly atmosphere that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

These stage shows are more than entertainment—they are a celebration of community spirit, culture, and togetherness during Eid.

When it comes to Eid, the Maldivian local community comes alive with culture, traditions, happiness, and celebration. Smiles, laughter, and fun can be seen everywhere as families and friends gather together to enjoy the festive spirit.

“Dheli Maali” is a traditional Maldivian folk parade performed during Eid celebrations. Different age groups of men cover their bodies with a black mixture made from wood-burning coal and water, creating a spooky zombie-like appearance. This unique folk performance brings excitement, laughter, and cultural spirit to the island community. Many children and locals gather to watch and enjoy this special event every year.

As part of the Eid celebrations, the community creates a traditional “Koadi” — a dancing prop made from a wooden stick and beautifully decorated with woven coconut leaves. Men and women work separately to create and decorate their own Koadi, putting in time, effort, and creativity to make it unique.

The women gather together to weave coconut leaves and decorate their Koadi. In the evening, they proudly carry it through the island streets in a joyful dancing parade, celebrating Eid and keeping this beautiful tradition alive.
