SPEAKERS:

SIMIT BHAGAT (India) - His film on Bhojpuri folk music, _In Search of Bidesia_, won the Best Music Documentary Award at the Royal Anthropology Film Festival in the UK and has been screened internationally.

AÏSHA BALUCK (Mauritius) - The lead actress in the historical segment of the film _Girmitiya: The Unsung Hero_, she pursued Film Studies to develop her skills in visual storytelling and media production.

VIKASH SITARAM (South Africa) - The producer of the film _Greytown Girl_, he plans to create an epic adaptation of the Trinidadian novel _A House for Mr Biswas_ by Nobel Laureate V. S. Naipaul.

KEVIN NIPAL (United States) - He is working on a film about the life of Andrew Ramroop, a Trinidadian master tailor based on Savile Row in London, the world-famous street known for bespoke tailoring.

A productive and inspiring courtesy meeting today by Indian Ocean Entertainment at the office of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon. Mahen Gondeea.

We had the privilege of engaging in meaningful discussions alongside the Director of MFDC, the Director of Culture, and their dedicated team, together with Bollywood film producer Mr. Terrence Cardoz.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and exploring exciting opportunities for future film projects, international partnerships, and cultural events in Mauritius. It was truly a fruitful exchange of ideas aimed at positioning Mauritius as a vibrant hub for film production and creative industries.

We look forward to turning these discussions into impactful projects that will promote our local talent, showcase our rich cultural heritage, and open new doors for the Mauritian film industry on the global stage.

We are also deeply honoured that Girmitiya was selected by the High Commission of India in Mauritius for screening at the Bihar Festival 2026, held at IGCIC Phoenix. This itself was a very special milestone for our film and a moment of great pride for the entire team.

This recognition belongs to the entire team. May this be one more step towards many more meaningful stories and accomplishments together.
