Great news from Morocco’s farmlands!

The prickly pear (Aknari) is making a strong comeback! Once devastated by pests, new resistant varieties are helping local growers bring this much-loved fruit back to life. Here at our Garden Ecolodge, where we celebrate harmony with nature, we love this story of resilience and renewal. Prickly pears thrive with little water and enrich the landscape — a true symbol of sustainability in the Souss Massa region.

Eating one is a little adventure! Carefully peel away the spiky skin (never with bare hands, unless you know the correct way!) to reach the jewel-like fruit inside — sweet, refreshing, and full of seeds. A delicious taste of Morocco’s sun-soaked countryside.

It’s not just prickly pears making headlines — Asparagus is also emerging as one of Morocco’s newest export crops, showcasing the country’s focus on diverse, climate-smart farming.

Guests at our Garden Ecolodge love our cuisine — tasty, healthy, colourful, varied, and beautifully presented Moroccan dishes with imaginative touches. The secret? Our amazing chefs use fresh ingredients, some grown in our own gardens, combined with an incredible bounty of local produce: sun-infused fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, oils, freshly-ground spices, fish, and meat from the mountains, irrigated valleys, and Atlantic Ocean. This allows our kitchen alchemists to create not only amazing meals for your taste buds, but also a feast for your eyes.

🌞💚 Updates at La Maison Anglaise Garden Ecolodge! 🌿🌸

Our amazing team in Taroudant has been busy! Over the off-season, we’ve:

✨ Expanded our stunning tiled garden circle from 50.4 sq. metres (8 metres diameter) to 71 sq. metres (9.4 metres diameter) giving groups more space to move, connect, and sing.
✨ Added a beautiful hand-crafted wooden door made by local artisans, in the corridor next to the hammam and massage room.
✨ Along with our indoor activity space, our rooftop terrace, courtyard, shaded oval, and poolside and garden areas we offer more options for indoor–outdoor magic. And… we’ve just added a new large collection of yoga mats as well.
✨ Improved acoustic comfort by doubling the height of the east-side wall from 2 metres to 4 metres; we have built a 40 cm thick earth structure which creates a sound-reducing wall that absorbs external sound energy effectively. Earplugs are always available for extra reassurance.

Whether you’re planning a group getaway or an independent retreat, our serene sun-soaked haven awaits! 🌞✨

Our Story

For 22 years we ran our successful guest house from a “normal” house. In 2020 we were so proud to open our stunning innovative ecolodge set in an acre of permaculture gardens with a 19 metre long pool in a superb position by the town walls and yet close to the souks. The design marries traditional wisdom and beautiful architecture with modern eco-design.

Excellent English-speaking Moroccan staff who provide excellent food (special dietary needs catered for) and offer a wide variety of insights into culture and the environment.

High quality transport, drivers and guides who make your holiday really special - we craft group holidays with special themes such as singing, dancing, yoga, wildlife, art, crafts.........

We support several charitable causes including projects we set up ourselves (women’s embroidery; soap-making ; beekeeping ; an experimental bee-friendly orchard; a water trough for working animals; tortoise conservation) and projects run by others (orphanage; School for the Blind; street children; conservation of an endangered bee; an environmental association; the local Rotary Club; various individuals and schools in need)
