On 11 July 2025, UNESCO has listed a new listing called “The Cambodian Memorial Sites: From centres of repression to places of peace and reflection” as World Heritage listing includes three locations:
1. Former M-13 prison: This site represents the early phase of repression by the Khmer Rouge regime. It's located in a rural area between Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu provinces.
2. Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (former S-21 prison): Located in Phnom Penh, this was the largest detention and torture center operated by the Khmer Rouge. It was originally a high school before being converted into a prison.
3. Choeung Ek Genocidal Center (former ex*****on site of S-21): Also located in Phnom Penh, this infamous "killing field" was where prisoners from S-21 were brought for ex*****on and buried in mass graves.
