The Trump administration has launched the Freedom Haulers Initiative to train more U.S. military veterans as truck drivers while tightening rules for immigrant drivers.
Veterans with heavy military driving experience may skip parts of the CDL test, while training costs can be covered through the GI Bill. Truck drivers earn an average of about US$70,000, or KSh9.1 million, per year.
Meanwhile, about 26,000 drivers have been removed from the roads over English-language checks, and 30,000 licences were cancelled for being issued illegally.

The policy could affect some Kenyans working as truck drivers in the United States, as the government moves to replace some foreign drivers with American veterans and prioritise local workers. Officials say the changes are meant to improve road safety and create more jobs for former service members, while immigrant groups argue that some foreign drivers are being unfairly targeted.
