ALI G THE DJ?
Ali G The Dj also known as G, is a professional Disk Jockey based in Kenya Nairobi. Apart from being a Deejay, I am also an Events Deejay, Corporate Deejay, and a Club Deejay. Let me start where it all started for me, i got interested in being a Dj straight out of high school. I generally liked music from back then in my Primary School Years where i used to drum in Sunday Church Services despite being a Muslim, i was so good at it that my friends even told me i’d end up venturing in music when i grew older, plus i could sing also and rap(Talents i never showed off though), in high school i just liked music and even used to bring pirated music video cds in school for entertainment days.
After high school in 2011 i told my parent that i wanted to Dj and of course the denial was there, she thought Djs are jokers and that it wasn’t a serious job, after a lengthy convincing, my parent then decided to pay for my training at Homeboyz M.T.A where i learnt the art of Deejaying and Sound Set Up, after 2 months of training i passed got my certificate and joined the entertainment world as an upcoming Dj.
I took a year off which was 2012 so that i could listen and learn music, in mid 2012 i met my former primary schoolmate Dj Ben and a friend called Dj Law who taught me the basic art of being an entertainer, we deejayed in a few clubs in Langata Nairobi where in 2013 we got a residency at Rafikiz in Langata that’s where i got the basic knowledge of being an entertainer.
Mid 2013 i had to brunched out from Dj Ben and Dj Law because i wanted to self grow and get better knowledge of how clubs ran, how to actually land a residency job, how to build an audience in club and how to maintain the crowd, which i was successful at, i ran Piccolina Lounge, Insygnia Lounge and Charm Capital just to name a few as the resident Dj. When i brunched out from my partners, setting up Dj Ali G was really challenging but prayer, hard work and perseverance got me through a lot.
