Back to our adventure on Lake Turkana and KWS Central Island National Park.

We make an abrupt stop at Longechi Island, a couple of minutes off the shores of Kalokol. Both our boat ⛵ operator and our assigned tour guide are unavailable, one snoring and another wondered off to God knows where😧😧.

Then this guy, this guy at the canteen, with a bottle of energy drink in hand ...so friendly. He says Hi and I say Hi back, in my mind thinking how he can be helpful. He introduced himself as major! Baaaas 🤣🤣🤣🤣.....I knew this was the guy ! I mean , wouldn't you trust a 'Major'? I request him if he can show as around and he agrees. No terms. His English very fluent so my friend Jerry from central Europe 🌍 is comfortably part of the conversation!!

We set off, round a corner and emerge into an open ground used to dry fish 🐠. This Island 🏝️ is fish 💯%. Remember it is close to Kalokol and Kalokol is known to export fish as far as DRC.
Major tells us about the history of Longechi Island, it's people, the infrastructure or the lack of it😭😭😭. Just the life on Longech the sinking Island all the while with a bunch of kids in toe, fighting just to hold our hands.

The images of kids playing on the beach ⛱️ without a care in the world, their faces when they looked into yours eyes, the teen girls with water jericans, the boys on logs trying to catch some fish closer to shore and the elderly, lying under the shade from the scorching 🥵 sun ☀️.

We bought whatever edibles we could find for the kids, tipped our very eloquent tour guide and set off for central Island 🏝️. And as the boat roared further away from Longech....apart of me remained there. And it's calling me back🥹🥹🥹

Tasting the offerings of 'The pearl of Africa' Ugandan 🇺🇬 Waragi! 🍻
So after an interesting trek to the first waterfall at sipi, our guide ushered us to the only coffee ☕ bar nearby. They stock mostly coffee, and of course you can order and enjoy a cup as you catch your breath. But to my surprise.....Ugandan Waragi! With glasses for tasting 🤣🤣🤣
Beside the coffee shop was the giftshop where you could shop for souvenirs. I bought a beautiful small African drum. Reminds me of the beats in my belly when am on the road.
Tourism at Sipi is different, the kind that glues on your skin, in a beautiful way. It is the way community has been integrated into tourism.
In many places, attractions are secluded, from the people. Here, you literally walk through people's farms to go to the waterfall, passby people houses and homes and say hello.✋️✋️ The coffee tour was conducted in the homestead of one of the community members. We actually had lunch at the same farm the first tour.
It is the local community that drive this sector and in comparison their charges are slightly higher than Kenya 🇰🇪.
