When we were young, sometimes our parents used to leave us alone for a weekend. Sometimes, that was a time when we felt that we had some freedom to explore many things that we thought our parents were limiting us. But because we wanted to finish the assignment quickly so that we have more free time, we used to invite our neighbours to help us finish the chores quickly. That way we would have enough time to have fun without upsetting our parents.
In our text today, peter wrote to Christians of his time reminding them of the imminent return of Christ. He was preparing them so that in their final days they would be found doing what the Lord expected. He called them to be sober and lead a disciplined prayerful life, to cultivate love among one another and to practice hospitality without grumbling so that they could be a blessing to those lacking.
Today Christians are not experiencing oneness because they are concerned with too many things that are distracting them from focusing on each other. Some pilgrims have forgotten the basic teachings of considering others above themselves. Pilgrims are today called to be sober and love one another and use their gifts to edify others and not for selfish gains. We are supposed to live simple lives that easily connect and bring glory and honour to God.

Do you find it difficult to interact harmoniously with those around you? Christ calls us to cultivate good connections with each other.
