This morning, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa, OGW, led hundreds of participants in the inaugural Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) Climate Change Marathon, followed by the official launch of a tree planting exercise at the Kakamega Forest, Kenyaโs only tropical rainforest.
The event brought together athletes, environmentalists, and county officials from across the region, among them H.E. Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, Governor of Vihiga County. It marked the first activity in a series of events leading to the LREB Climate Change and Agri-Expo Summit, which aims to promote sustainable environmental practices and regional collaboration in addressing the effects of climate change.

He further urged residents to adopt eco-friendly means of transport such as cycling and walking, and to participate actively in tree planting and growing initiatives within their homes and communities.
Governor Barasa expressed gratitude to all partners who supported the event and called upon stakeholders and residents to actively participate in the upcoming LREB Climate Change and Agri-Expo Summit, where leaders will deliberate on collective strategies for building climate resilience across the region.
