The next Language exchange is set! This time, we will still do a game, but we will keep people in smaller groups rather than moving everyone together.

This should allow people to speak more comfortably as they make new friends and practice their languages.

July 21! 6pm! Let's try a Sunday! All you can drink now includes Espresso beverages as well!

Hello! The event is tomorrow! I apologize for any confusion, I listed the wrong date on the previous flyer!

Parking is in a separate location than the venue. It is a little south on the same side of the road! Please come and enjoy!

I often tell people learning another language is more than words and grammar, it gives you an insight into the culture that developed it. Here's a good example from Japanese.

If you want to say "want" it's a simple word. "hoshii."

But that only applies to your wants, not others. Same goes for other emotions like sad, happy etc. These are known as "private predicates."

Because it's obviously ridiculous to speak for someone else's emotions that you can't feel, *cough*

The Japanese language itself uses another word for conjecture. One that makes it clear you're assuming. And to use the factual version for others simply doesn't work.

So your desires: Hoshii. Other people's desires: Hoshigateiru
Though it seems to be used as one whole concept, it's clear that hoshigateiru is built off Hoshii + Ga (particle) +teiru (to be in a current state of existence)

Regardless, this is fascinating to me as an English speaker, particularly an American English speaker where we often assume we know what other people want/feel and speak for them.

In Japanese, it's literally been pushed out of the language itself, as in, it's grammatically incorrect to assume someone's feelings.
