A little ray of sunshine ☀️

Being a solopreneur can sometimes feel like working in a vacuum. You put in the hours, create, research, update, answer questions… and every now and then you wonder: Is it useful? Does anyone actually care?

Then, every once in a while, a kind message from a subscriber or someone who has used the free Lucca What’s On site arrives — and it feels like a little ray of sunshine peeking through the clouds. ☀️ It warms my heart and gives me the boost to keep going.

So today, I thought I’d share a few lovely messages I’ve received recently. ❤️

When visiting Lucca, it’s understandably tempting to stay within the historic centre. ❤️

But if you fancy escaping the crowds, venture outside through Porta Santa Maria and stroll along the authentic Borgo Giannotti neighbourhood.

Keep walking and eventually you’ll reach the Serchio River and the lovely Parco Infinito — a peaceful little escape where you can slow down, breathe, and enjoy a different side of Lucca. 🌿

Sometimes the nicest places are just a little beyond the obvious ones.

If nature calls while you’re strolling through the streets of Lucca, and you’re already coffeed-out ☕️😂, it’s handy to know where the few precious public bathrooms are!

📍 Top left: Via Pescheria 9 — near Piazza Napoleone. This seems to be the only public toilet in the historic centre, and you do have to pay to use it.

📍 Middle left: Piazzale Don Franco Baroni — where the Wednesday and Saturday markets are held.

📍 Bottom left: Il Pinturicchio — a little shopping centre on Borgo Giannotti, just outside Porta Santa Maria. It has some cute shops and restaurants… and sparkling-clean bathrooms! ✨🚻

Because sometimes the most important thing to know in Lucca isn’t where to find the best gelato… 😂
