Making Waves To Save Our Seas

Making Waves To Save Our Seas TEMPEST 2011 It was a witness to the fact that DMET was as much involved with the city’s culture and heritage, as the rest of the city was.

The journey of Tempest was started way back in 1973 as “Marino Fest”, by the 1973-77 batch of the Directorate of Marine Engineering and Training (DMET). This was a testimony to the fact that in spite of all the discipline and scheduled life at college, the mariners were nowhere to be left behind when it came to being involved with the city of Calcutta. The first step to the fest started with two m

onth’s stipend money contributed by four of our forefathers. ‘This’ then went on to become a stepping stone in the history books of heritage Calcutta and ‘Marino Fest’.

“Making Waves to Save Our Seas”- Tempest 2011 is an effort. An attempt to bring the thinking youth of the city under one roof, and to think about where we stand today. In a world where Marine Pollution has brought the entire world to stop and think, ‘we’ need to come together and put in our efforts. As they say, ‘never judge a man by his size’; it is high time we realized that every mortal is important and in some way or the other we do make a contribution. A contribution to the pollution; and if we try, a major contribution to protecting over three fourths of the world. Tempest is a movement-a journey where each one of us who are a part of it, take a pledge to put in the tiniest little effort from each of our sides to make the ‘blue planet’ a better place. Rightfully as Michael Jackson had once said,
“There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me”

In 2011, we start a new wave at Marine Engineering and Research Institute by bringing back Cacophony, by giving fuel to Chakravyuh and by giving birth to Propulsions.

CACOPHONY
Marine Engineering and Research Institute and Kolkata have held a bond for 63 years and with time the Cultural heritage of the city has embraced the mariners gladly. With "Cacophony", we wish to pay a tribute to the 'City of Joy' and also bring a link between the city and the blue planet.
'Making Waves to Save Our Seas' is an effort from our end to bring the entire city to the marine shores and up bring the cultural heritage of the city. With this we also wish to bring about a conscious attempt among the people in the city regarding the marine world which is at a major threat and needs immediate care.
Cacophony was initially introduced by the college's seniors to create a bridge between the city and the budding marine engineers. This year, we wish to relive the olden times with new life and vigor and fresh ideas that make Cacophony and Tempest a dream come true.
With music being the core of Kolkata's heritage for years now, this year the music loving people will be treated to an experience like never before. Besides life-giving dance, awakening plays, breath-taking fashion shows, and many more events will make sure that Calcutta falls in love with the culture of the city and with Tempest all over again!
