Meet Vriddhi (Grey) (), the artist behind The Presence of an Absence, currently on view at TRI Art & Culture as part of 🌧️ Monsoon Rooms.

Working across photography, scent, text, and alternative photographic processes, Vriddhi’s practice explores memory, grief, lineage, and the ways absence can continue to shape our lives. Her work often begins with the question of how we remember when a photograph cannot hold everything — and what other sensory and material forms might allow us to return to what has been lost.

In The Presence of an Absence, these questions unfold across four interconnected bodies of work, bringing together photography, installation, scent, and text. Drawing from lived experience, Vriddhi creates an intimate, sensorial space where memory is not simply recalled, but encountered through the body and the senses.

As part of Monsoon Rooms, the exhibition invites us to enter this space of remembrance and consider our own relationships with memory, loss, and what remains.

Meet Vriddhi (Grey) (Vriddhi), the artist behind The Presence of an Absence, currently on view at TRI Art & Culture as part of 🌧️ Monsoon Rooms.

On Saturday, 22 August, join TRI Art & Culture for Scentimental Labs, a hands-on workshop exploring scent as a medium of memory with artist Vriddhi (Grey) () and Devashish Parnami.

What happens when a memory has no photograph? Can scent become a way to evoke, recreate, and relive it?

Through a hands-on process of creating and composing scents, participants will explore their own sensory associations and consider how something as ephemeral as fragrance can hold experiences that have no visual trace — allowing memories to be reimagined and reinhabited in the present. Each participant will also create a fragrance to take home with them, carrying their sensory memory beyond the workshop.

Developed from Vriddhi (Grey)’s ongoing Scentimental Labs and her artwork Second Skin, presented as part of The Presence of an Absence, this workshop explores memory beyond the photographic frame as part of 🌧️ Monsoon Rooms.

Join TRI Art & Culture for The Shape of What We Carry, a conversation between artists Vriddhi (Grey) () and Vasudhaa Narayanan () exploring grief as a creative catalyst — and the ways memory, method, and lived experience can be articulated and reimagined through artistic practice.

How do we give shape to what we carry? What happens when grief moves beyond an experience we inhabit and becomes something we can work with, transform, and represent?

Drawing from their distinct multidisciplinary practices, Vriddhi (Grey) and Vasudhaa Narayanan will explore different ways of inhabiting and articulating emotion, reflecting on the artistic languages, literature, and lived experiences that inform their work. The conversation will consider how memory can be revisited and transformed, and how the act of giving form to feeling can, in turn, shape the ways we see, remember, and move through the world.

The conversation marks the inauguration of The Presence of an Absence, Vriddhi (Grey)’s solo exhibition presented as part of the second edition of 🌧️ Monsoon Rooms. She is joined by Vasudhaa Narayanan, whose work was presented in the first edition through Soft Circulations, curated by Offset Projects.

After the rain, what remains — in our memories, in our bodies, in the spaces we inhabit?

For its second edition, 🌧️ Monsoon Rooms turns toward the aftermath: the traces, transformations, and emotional landscapes that emerge after the storm.

This season invites us to experience memory, grief, rest, and connection through the language of the senses — asking how we inhabit, remember, and give form to what remains once the weather stills.

Monsoon Rooms opens its doors to the TRI community on 🗓️ Friday, 21 August, 2026.

🌍 Designing Your Dream World brought together young participants aged 8–12 for an expressive arts workshop led by youth arts facilitator Priyanka Chowdhury (), centred on imagination, self-expression, and the possibilities of world-building.

Drawing from Gulammohammed Sheikh’s *Mappamundi* series, the workshop invited participants to think about maps not simply as representations of the world, but as spaces where memory, imagination, experience, and possibility can come together. Through observation, conversation, drawing, and making, they explored the worlds they carry within them and imagined new ones of their own.

It was a joy to see imagination take shape in so many different ways, as the young participants moved between what they know, what they imagine, and what they might create, building worlds that were entirely their own. ✨

As the creative weekend in Kolkata drew to a close, Curator After Hours brought together curators, artists, and guests at TRI Art & Culture for a more relaxed evening of conversation, informal exchanges, and shared time.

The evening began with Frames of Mind, a film screening presented as part of 🖐️👁️ Hand Prints / Mind Prints, before moving into the galleries to spend time with Gulammohammed Sheikh’s printmaking practice and continue conversations with the TRI team.

Following Experimenter Curators’ Hub (), a longstanding gathering that brings together artists and curators from across India and internationally, Curator After Hours offered a chance to slow down and unwind together, away from the pace of the weekend’s programming.

From the galleries to the TRI Patio, conversations continued over a thoughtfully curated spread by CAARA (), creating space for new connections, familiar faces, and the easy exchanges that happen when the evening is allowed to unfold naturally.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made Curator After Hours such a warm and memorable close to the weekend. ✨

Frames of Mind brought Gulammohammed Sheikh’s Holi at Kanvaat (1969) back into view, 57 years after it was first made, alongside a selection of companion films curated by Madhuja Mukherjee ().

The evening offered a chance to encounter Sheikh’s early experiments with moving image alongside works by Akbar Padamsee and Pramod Pati, opening up conversations around observation, experimentation, place, and the many ways an image can hold a story.

Set against Hand Prints / Mind Prints, the screening offered another entry point into Sheikh’s multidisciplinary practice, and a reminder of how much can emerge when we look beyond a single medium.
