Editorial Note
This time also we have tried to incorporate articles pertaining to different topics relating to different disciplines of our knowledge, with some emphasis on the
north-east region of the state. The reaction to our past issues is still very positive and I would urge you to give your views, especially on those which you feel needs
improvement, to enable us to make your magazine better and more innovative.
In this issue we present an article on the biodiversity hotspots which falls within India or India is part of it will I hope be of interest. Even though we talk of biodiversity hotspots, many of us are not very familiar of those where India is a part of it or those which falls within India. The use of plant-source alkali in the preparation of delicacies interlinks the different communities of the region. The article on gibbon hoolock will provide further insights into these animals which are now threatened. The article on our nervous system, whether it is democratic or
autocratic in its functioning will we hope make you tickle your brain. So is the one on child rights. We continued with the second part of the series on migration to the north east of India based on linguistic data.
All of us are concerned about the pollution and the article on agricultural pesti-
cides will provide deeper understanding on this matter, besides providing a peek into why organic farming is becoming a craze. The sun, the nearest star to us, life giver is so closed to us but how much do we really know about it? We have an article with stunning visuals.
