At an unusual time of the year for us, we’re delighted to announce a weekend of music in Scotstown on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th of January (2 weeks time).
Our headline concert on Saturday 25th at 8pm in Cornagilta School Heritage Centre will feature Diarmuid O’Meachair on accordion and melodeon, accompanied by Brian McGrath on keyboard and Michael McCague on guitar and bouzouki.
A first-timer to our festival, Diarmuid is no stranger to the stage and performs regularly with Frankie Gavin & De Dannan as well as maintaining a rigorous solo touring schedule. From the Cúil Aodha Gaeltacht in Cork, Diarmuid is also an accomplished sean-nós singer and teacher and has gained recognition as one of the most exciting traditional musicians of his generation, winning the prestigious TG4 Young Musician of the Year award in 2022. He has recorded 3 solo albums to date - Siúl na Slí (2022), Melodeon Medleys (2023), and his 3rd (and self-titled) in 2024.
Brian McGrath is a highly respected Irish musician, known for his exceptional skills on the banjo and piano. Hailing from Brookeborough, Co. Fermanagh, Brian's musical journey began at a young age, and he quickly made a name for himself in the traditional Irish music scene. He has played with renowned bands such as Dervish, Four Men and a Dog, De Dannan, and At The Racket, and has accompanied celebrated musicians like Noel Hill, Paul Brock, and Frankie Gavin. Currently, Brian is a much sought-after session and studio musician and his extensive touring and collaborations have made him a prominent figure in Irish traditional music.
Michael McCague is a guitarist and bouzouki player from County Monaghan. He has collaborated with numerous distinguished traditional musicians and bands, including At First Light, At The Racket, and Teada. Michael's 2014 recording, "The Waylaid Man," showcases his compositions and has been well-received within the traditional music community.
Diarmuid, Brian and Michael will also be giving workshops on Saturday 25th from 11-1pm on accordion, banjo, and guitar/bouzouki respectively.
