🌾 We’re absolutely thrilled to share some wonderful news! 🌾

The Maharees/Castlegregory onion basket revival event has been shortlisted for the Intangible Cultural Heritage Award at the National Heritage Week Awards, taking place this Friday, Oct 17th.

The Castlegregory Agricultural Show is super proud to have played its part in the revival of this beautiful basket. The maharees/Castlegregory onion basket has deep roots in our local heritage and is a part of our community identity and can contribute to sustainability in todays world by helping to replace plastics around the home and garden 💚

It now has a place in the National Heritage Collection.

Projects and events like these remind us why it’s so important to keep traditional crafts and cultural practices alive — they connect us to our past, strengthen our sense of community, and ensure that the skills and stories of our ancestors continue to inspire future generations. 🌿✨

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic wide spread collaboration across the whole community including local growers with first hand knowledge of the basket, the Maharees Heritage and Conservation, whose passion and dedication helped bring this beautiful tradition back to life, The Heritage Council Kerry County Council for their generous funding support and commitment to safeguarding our cultural heritage and Saille Baskets for teaching others to carry on the art of making them. This skill is now alive again in the community. A heartfelt thank you to you all 🙏💚

We would like we to sincerely thank Kerry County Council and Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht for their support by allocating funding through the Local Enhancement Fund. This funding went to the purchases of livestock gates and Insurance costs.

This is no small achievement! 🥳👏🎉 The Di**le penninsula is a large and diverse place and this win shows that amazing results can be achieved through collaboration towards positive change across all sections of society, farming, business and community volunteer groups. 🤝🌱🌟 CAS are very proud to have played our part in it. 🥰😊✨ Congratulations and well done to everyone involved. 🥳👏👍

We are absolutely thrilled and proud that the Di**le Peninsula has been named the overall winner of the Irish Times "Ireland's Greenest Place" competition.
This award is a testament to the incredible collective effort of individuals, community groups and organistions working right across the peninsula.

Hard to believe its almost a week ago since our 2025 show. What a day we had thank you to all our sponsors, Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Irish Shows Association Kerry County Council, all those who came to exhibit, compete and support.
