Életem első pszichedelikus partiján 1994-ben vettem részt a budapesti Blue Box Moziban, amit hívtak később Kinizsinek és számos más néven is.
És most összeért minden. Váratlanul belefutottam a számba: Art Of Trance (azaz Simon Berry): - Ultrafoxx’. I hope you all love it.
(ENGLISH)
I attended my first psychedelic party in 1994, at the Blue Box Cinema in Budapest, which was later called Kinizsi, among many other names. Back then, we called this kind of party an “acid party”, and it was also the first time I tried acid. Just a little, but I really liked it. I couldn’t make anything of the party itself, though: I was supposed to enter a dark, crowded, stuffy, and extremely smoky room (back then, you could still smoke pretty much anywhere), with electronic music blasting at full volume — “No way I’m going in there!” And I didn’t.
But it wasn’t long before I did. I was 20, and I grew up on the music of Titusz and Tadeus at X-Lab (or, as everyone jokingly called it: X-Láb). The Almássy Square Community Centre, the Budapest Grand Circus, Frankhegy — as long as I have my wits about me and as long as I’m alive, I will never forget those experiences. Echoes of that music even found their way into my first novel, A vidéki fiatalok Budapesten (Country Youngsters in Budapest). I felt that I had stumbled upon something utterly impossible to put into words, yet infinitely rich.
Then came all kinds of new styles, outdoor parties, Törökbálint, Bakony and finally, in 1999, the first Ozora, which was still called Solipse back then. And many, many more festivals. Then later there was even a period when I didn’t listen to a single note of psychedelic music for at least ten years; in fact, for years I wasn’t interested in music or literature at all. Three years ago, I started making my way back into this world, and this time I was able to approach this… well, I don’t even know what to call it… this way of being (?) much more mindfully, much more consciously. After a while, I realised I wasn’t going to escape from this world, and last autumn I bought my first DJ controller — well past the age of 50.
I’m turning 53 soon, but even today I can hum a tune whose melody used to be a recurring motif at X-Lab parties back in the day. I hummed it countless times to a friend who is a huge Titusz fan, asking if she knew what it might be. I’ve even heard similar tracks from Titusz himself in recent years, but I never managed to find this particular one. I even tried humming it to Shazam — well, that was completely pointless :-)
And now everything has come full circle. Completely unexpectedly, I stumbled across the track: Art Of Trance (Simon Berry) — Ultrafoxx’. And thanks above all to my favourite producer, Headroom, I have finally found the path, the style that truly feels like mine — the one that leads toward the fulfilment of body, heart, and mind.
Psytechno. Tech ’n’ Trance. Psyhouse. Whatever you call it. The label doesn’t matter. It’s so good that the sounds literally speak for themselves. Cool, edgy, and playful. Brutal when it needs to be, ethereal when it needs to be. And you can never be quite sure what the next moment will bring. I hope you all love it.
