Grateful to be engage in a conversation with Cloud 39’s -in its 39 Stories’ series 🌟
When they asked me what makes their space different, here’s what came to mind.
I never start with what a room looks like. I start with what a couple wants people to teel when they walk in. The room comes after - and Cloud 39 is one of the few spaces built modern enough to stay out of the way. It is neutral enough to hold almost any story without fighting it.
That freedom to create means every celebration gets to exist as its own world fully. A jungle. A storybook. A couple’s initials reimagined into a pattern no one’s seen before.
Yet the best moment is always the same. Guests entered the ballroom in awe and got taken away into another world.
That’s the part of this work I care about most. Not just decorating a room but building a world which changes you.

For Alison, founder and creative director of AF Atelier, Cloud 39 is a space waiting for a story to unfold. Unlike ballrooms defined by a fixed aesthetic, its soaring ceilings, clean architectural lines, and ever-changing natural light create a setting rich with possibility.
That freedom allows every celebration to take on a character of its own. An immersive crimson jungle, a whimsical world inspired by the Hundred Acre Wood, or a contemporary motif drawn from a couple’s initials, each concept is given the space to exist fully and authentically.
The moment that makes it all worthwhile comes when the ballroom doors open. Guests pause, take in the scene, and reach for their phones only after taking a moment to simply look.
To Alison, that is the beauty of wedding design: not merely creating a beautiful room, but crafting a world for guests to step into, if only for a few hours.
And bringing that world to life takes more than creativity alone.
It requires a team willing to collaborate closely with designers, navigate the practical details, and transform possibilities into reality.
Because every unforgettable celebration begins with a space ready to become something extraordinary.
