I'm working on a Roy Ayers Spotify playlist - have a listen!
Of all the artist in the world, Roy Ayers is the one that I've seen the most times - 13 all in!
He never disappointed, in fact I was watching some of his live performances on YouTube over the weekend and was reminded exactly why I went to see him so many times.
This is my tribute playlist to him.
Rest in peace old friend.

“I put a seashell to my ear and it all comes back, The yellow sun. The Mediterranean blue. The sky. The children running on the beach that day. The killdeer birds marching in formation, down to the sea; and back; down to the sea and back. When my memory wanders, as it does when bad things happen; I put a seashell to my ear and it all comes back.
That day. You....”

I am an expert at spinning outdoors. On a rooftop, poolside, by the sea, on a boat, at a music festival. That kind of thing. My favourite time to spin is 1600h - 2000h. I love managing the mood as the day evolves from late afternoon to early evening.
I’m also pretty good at playing in bars. I love reading the crowd and all of their non-verbal cues. I notice who fancies who; who’s on date number three; who’s having a fight & might break up tonight; who’s celebrating or falling in love right now; and I play music that facilitates all of these things.
The thing is, most people never even notice what I did. They just know the music was good.
To date I have been invited to DJ at four weddings where I was the DJ playing at the party on the night where the happy couple first got together and I am very happy to have been part of that process. Here’s to many many more!
