This October, 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐤𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐢, a Greek dancer and choreographer who adopt “practice” as her main choreographing method will share her research with us in a dynamic moment where everything remains fluid and possible.

In her work, the different processes of experiencing (choreographing, performing, observing) are intewaved in order to release compositional as well as defamiliarization processes of movement that are also related in everyday life and do develop capacities in world-making and self-creation.

Only 6 days left to apply for the second Dance Creation as a Reflective Practice | residency program in Lefkada island, Greece , so we couldn’t help but feel heartwarming joy when we came across these photos from last September. This amazing team of sensing and moving beings, made Paleohori their home for a month. So many things happened that, had we tried to plan them, they never would have unfolded the same way.

Classes, sharings, parties, tears, heart circles, performances, writings, hugs, more hugs, smiles, birthday surprises, full moon, and so much more.

Most of all, a bonded community was created, and still today, from all over the planet, they are trying to keep in touch, meeting and sharing.

After all, this residency is designed to invite people to just be and be together.

What a gift you are, people! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

"All I've done is to strive constantly to do less and less in order to eventually not have to do anything […] I've spent close to 50 years farming in a way that keeps me looking out for things I don't have to do rather than to find new things to do […] if I were to carry out a social movement of some sort, this would have to be one that consisted of doing nothing. If everyone were to do nothing, the word would become a place of peace and plenty."

Fukuoka's words stand as a great reminder to value being over doing, and presence over progress. Perhaps the most radical act in movement today is to stop and listen.
🌱

One last month until we can collectively rethink dance as a living, evolving force—rooted in care, resilience, and deep connection. 🌍 One last spot is still open for the "Listening to a Permanent Culture of Dance: A Permaculture-inspired Residency" !

Yesterday we had a lovely day gathering daisies with the guidance of and the great help of .en.roos.vanlife who have made our lives sunnier these past few days staying at with us!

Daises are such a valuable herbal medicine, blooming almost all over Neohori's fields🌼

Nature is always so generous with us, freely sharing her gifts -we just need to be aware, notice and appreciate them 🐛🌿

The paleohori team has been working enthusiastically behind the scenes creating and putting together engaging programs for sensing and moving beings! 🦋🌻🐛🐝

Without further ado, three new projects are in the works and almost ready to be announced very soon. We decided to give you some little hints as we were too excited and couldn’t keep them to ourselves for much longer. 🌱

•Rest In Motion | summer dance workshops | August 11 - September 11

Across four immersive 8 day periods, participants will have the opportunity to reconnect with your unique movement through dance improvisation, experiential anatomy, artistic expression and somatic exploration. 8 workshops led by international facilitators, each bringing their own approach to movement practice, offering tools to uncover new pathways of expression and perception and inviting you to be fully present in your body.

•10-day residential workshops program in collaboration with local producers from Lefkada | September 12 - September 21

Tours, seminars and workshops about natural cosmetics, medicinal herbs, herbal tinctures, handmade soaps, olive farming and beekeeping. And of course morning movement classes, hiking, beach time and an international like-minded community!

•Generative Choreographies | Research Workshop | September 22 - October 12

A new hybrid form of a residential research program in Paleohori, Generative Choreographies invites one guest artist to conduct and share their research with a dedicated group of curious people. Over the course of three weeks, in the sloping forest of Paleohori, the guest artist will bring four specific questions emerging from their personal practice—questions to be explored collectively. Together, the group will engage in a process of co-inquiry, trying scores, inventing rituals, sharing meals, and allowing time to shape their discoveries.

More information is coming soon!

Listening to a Permanent Culture of Dance: A Permaculture-Inspired Residency 🌿

Can dance be a regenerative, sustainable practice, like an ecosystem that flourishes over time? This permaculture-inspired residency invites movers, thinkers, and artists to explore dance beyond consumption and hierarchy, embracing longevity, adaptability, and interconnection.

Over three weeks in Paleohori’s unique landscape, we will co-create a dance culture that sustains rather than consumes, challenges norms, and nurtures both individual and collective transformation.

Themes we explore:
🌱Sustainable dance practices: Embracing Otherness, Honouring Commonalities
🌊Dance as a medium for self-growth beyond stereotypes, comparison, and external validation
🔥Contemporary dance as an active political and cultural force for change

Join us in rethinking dance as a living, evolving force—rooted in care, resilience, and deep connection. 🌍

The courageous almond trees at Neohori have blossomed, bringing light to the dull winter landscape and reminding us that spring is not as far away as it seems… Just like the spring residency “Listening to a Permanent Culture of Dance: dance, permaculture, and sustainability"!

During this residency we shall take the time and emerge in ideas, tools and practices towards an active, applied and self regulated approach, while exploring questions such as:

– How permaculture can inspire dance practices that transform ourselves and the world around us?

– How to live-dance in a sustainable way, while imagining the collective body as an ecosystem that affects and is being affected by other bodies?

– What can a permanent culture of dance be?

Only a few days left to submit your application!
Deadline is February 15th!

Last year we applied for the first time heart circles during our first residencies, and the effect of their presence was so profound that we just can’t go back anymore. ✨

Paleohori is not just a hosting space. It’s a field of exploration of togetherness, of meltingness through the other, in order for one to enhance profound transformations. Every year we get to understand a bit more about the unpredictable nature of human dynamics and feel no more than humble as hosts to all that unfolds. Heart circles helped us to see the other beyond the rational, the image, and its projections, by engaging in deep active listening and articulating emotions.

We saw people growing from individuals to communities with collective emotional intelligence that we rarely encounter. We see people traveling from country to country to reunite after the courses end or engaging in new adventures together.☀️

We know that heart circles can engineer higher emotional availability in order to process intense emotions collectively and individually. They hold a space for anyone ready enough to evolve through a highway of collective care or for the shy hearts that absorb like sponges, all contributing to a collective emotional regulation, release, and growth.

From now on, we’ll be implementing heart circles in other programs, including Unplugged, because beyond better regulation, we need rituals that ground us to our human nature. 🫂

O dusty mountains,
rugged mountains
Were you laughing at us,
watching us walking with strain?
When we’ve all been rejoicing
while seeing your veins.

O rusty mountains,
clumsy mountains,
What were you thinking
during our distant complaints?
All crying in a circle after we
shared our common pains.

Dance Creation as a Reflective Practice 🍃✨

Are you a dance artist, and want to explore the creative process of dance as a reflective practice?
Paleohori invites you to apply for an immersive residency in Lefkada island. 🌊☀️

A co-living and practising set up within a diverse global community for 5 summer weeks, where participants will get the opportunity to explore their preference of practices, movement and dancing while focusing on simply being and being together with the rest of the group.

If you are interested in decolonised techniques, decentralised dance narratives, choreography and micro activisms, choreographic strategies for reflection, dramaturgical integration of the audience in the reflecting process and more, then this will be the nest for you to deeply explore, evolve and connect with similar thinking individuals and creators.

Dates: July 6th - August 10th, 2025
Location: Neohori, Lefkada, Ionian islands, Greece
Venue: Paleohori art-space
Duration: Five weeks
Application deadline: March 20th, 2025
Notification of acceptance: March 27th, 2025

Regarding the collaborative nature of this residency, we hope it will go beyond its role as a platform for cultural exchange and become a community-building experience that addresses social issues, challenges norms and inspires positive change. 🦎
