Hello family,

Let us against Gender Based Violence.

As a firm believer and advocate for the rights of women and girls, I am of the conviction that it is now time more than ever that we combine not only our voices but resources in fighting all forms of violence against women and the youth.

It was interesting to note from a placard given to me by Marina Lamptey during a hangout with some of her mentees of which I'm inclusive that "A global study found that 38% of women have had personal experience of online violence." My heart sank when I read this and especially because I am included in the 38%.

What can we do to reduce this number and possibly end online violence or cyber bulling?

💫Add your voice. Don't keep quiet or be adamant. Speak out about this silent killer. Advocate for it's end through your platforms

💫 Join the campaign by supporting projects that aim to end violence against women and youth

💫Invest in the future of a young girl through mentorship and or sponsorship like Marina Lamptey is doing with UMI Foundation.

PS: This was me sharing my view at a Democracy Dialogue on Gender and Democracy in Ghana convened by Dr. John Osae-Kwapong in collaboration with the Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy, and Documentation at University of Cape Coast .

I enunciated freedom of speech, peaceful elections and the progress Ghana has made with regards to women participation in politics as assets Ghana has. It is however, noteworthy that despite our progress, the percentage of women in politics is still quite low and they keep experiencing all forms of violence. Hence, there is more room for improvement. On the other hand, I listed corruption, abuse of power and infiltration of the executive in the affairs of the other arms of government, agencies and chieftancy as liabilities.

There's more to be done as a country and I am thrilled to be able to contribute my quota.

How do we communicate for Impact...

Imagine not being able to achieve your desired results or having a relationship broken because one party or both were unable to communicate effectively.

Communication can break your most cherished relationships dependent on how you go about it. It is why I am delighted to have had the opportunity to share with youth like myself at the recently organised Effective Communication webinar by Tween Technologies.

Below are a few of the points I highlighted during the session;
💫Effective communication is not limited to merely talking, speaking or passing on information.
💫Effective Communication is the successful exchange of information resulting in a desired outcome.
💫Communication is not complete when there is no clarity or understanding.
💫To be an effective communicator, endeavor to do the following;
👌be clear, concise, concrete, courteous, considerate and confident in your communication
👌learn to speak at the right time and place
👌speak the right ways (don't just talk. Be a thinking talker)
👌be an active listener
👌be mindful of your body language, postures and gestures. Statistics show that in communication, 55% is what you don't say, 38% is how you say it and 7% is what you say😉
👌choose the right tone
👌maintain appropriate eye contact

Lastly, I urged the 35 participants who joined to keep in mind that "we communicate for impact, not to be heard."

My goal was to impart knowledge and impact the participants such that we all engage in effective communication for growth. And I believe that this was achieved owing to the feedbacks I've received.
