I’ve come home from a fantastic family holiday to a tunnel full of the most beautiful lemony, white and peachy pink poppies with a scrumptious scent. Probably the best ever, but don’t I always say that?

Narcissi…

So many of these are still really short, in bud, coming up blind, or being eaten by slugs. I suspect the bulbs have been weakened by successive drought (think the summer of 22), and flooding (think pretty much continuous since Autumn!).
We garden on heavy clay and the loss of bulbs is a serious consideration as we move towards more erratic weather patterns associated with climate change.
Most of my bulbs are dotted through woodland and dappled grassy areas. Usually they would multiply and bulk up over successive years, but I’m thinking I may need to rethink this. Is anyone else having a poor year with their narcissi?

Slowly but surely…The flowers are emerging from the depths of a wet, bleak, long winter here in Suffolk. These Galilee anemones are finally starting to pop in the tunnel and I couldn’t be more pleased to see their cheery faces.

March flowers…

Although admittedly not this season. We’re still wading through mud, squelching through borders and picking up the pieces from the wettest winter since records began.
However, there will be flowers! We’re still here and still growing. Lots to look forward to as the new season brings us narcissi, blossom, hellebores and fresh beginnings.
