This week is Dying Matters Awareness Week.
Talking about death doesn’t come naturally to most of us. It can feel uncomfortable, even frightening. But in my work, I see time and again just how important these conversations really are.
Because when we talk about dying, we’re actually talking about living — about what matters most, about the people we love, and about the legacy we leave behind.
I meet families at one of the most difficult times in their lives. And what brings them comfort isn’t perfection — it’s clarity. Knowing what their loved one wanted. Having had those conversations. Understanding their wishes. Being able to honour them in a way that feels right.
Dying Matters Week encourages us to:
✨ Talk openly with those we love
✨ Share our wishes and preferences
✨ Take the fear out of the unknown
✨ Make space for meaningful goodbyes
It’s not about being morbid — it’s about being prepared, compassionate, and connected.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: the conversations we avoid today can become the ones we wish we’d had tomorrow.
So maybe this week is the moment to gently start that conversation.

Today I received the most beautiful card from a family I recently had the privilege of supporting.

It’s hard to put into words just how much messages like this mean. Being invited to help tell someone’s story, to honour a life, and to stand alongside a family at such a tender time is something I never take for granted.

Knowing that the service brought comfort, captured their loved one’s spirit, and helped create a meaningful goodbye is truly the greatest gift.

Grateful, humbled, and reminded once again why this work matters so deeply. 🤍
