SAY ‘OUI’ TO ELOPING 💍✨
Unlike the French, the Scots aren’t exactly renowned for being overly romantic, but maybe that’s because the landscape does all the talking so we don’t have to 🤣
Even with the midgies and mist, there’s just something wildly romantic about getting married in the Highlands and even the French seem to agree!
Huge congratulations to Remy & Nawel, who travelled over from Marseille last month to wed between rain showers. Nawel’s dress? Absolutely sublime❤️

SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE CRAFTY BRIDES 👰♀️🪡
Traditionally, the fabric used during the hand fasting part of a wedding ceremony would have been two pieces of clan tartan (one from each family), but couples are getting wildly creative these days and we are loving it!
We’ve seen dog leads, heirloom scarves, cuttings from a mums wedding dress, ribbons picked to match a bouquet and many more, but our all-time fave was Chris & Amy’s from last winter where Amy hand-embroidered their entire love story into the fabric!
We were delighted to see that the fabulously talented Kirsty was inspired by Amy when she hand-stitched two for her and Jordan’s wedding last week! Perfection!
Huge congrats, you legends! 🥂

A GORGE[OUS] WAY TO SAY 'I DO' 💍⛲️
Reason no.989 for choosing to elope. You don't need to splash out on pricey venue decorations, because Mother Nature has done it all for you! Make like Chris & Steph and stroll through a magical gorge with birdsong as your playlist and waterfalls cascading all around!
No decorations required. Just boots and a sense of adventure!

NEARLY NOT TYING THE KNOT 🪢💍
We had a bit of a situation at Amy & Lewis’s gorgeous beach elopement (and no, it wasn’t just the wild weather!). During the handfasting ceremony we came to the realisation that there was just one piece of handfasting cloth. Traditionally, it’s two, one to represent each person. Luckily Amy & Lewis are solutions people and even luckier still, Lewis’s best man was very happy to sacrifice his tie. Voila!
Winging it, elopement style!!
Massive congratulations to these legends ❤️

It would be difficult to imagine a better way to spend a very warm and sunny afternoon in the mountains than to be photographing Victoria and Sauli's elopement in Glencoe.
The happy couple left a cold and damp Finland to come to Scotland during our three weeks of glorious sunshine for their wedding at Glencoe Lochan, with the ceremony by Paula in the woods rather than by the water's edge this time. There were many amazing things about this elopement – beautiful second-hand wedding dress, suit and wedding rings for a start – but one very beautiful item was their beloved dog Paul Newman's lead which they used for the traditional hand-fasting. Sadly bureaucracy prevented Pauli from being there, but at least he was there in spirit.
After the ceremony we drove a little higher to some fabulous viewpoints in the valley at about 18:00 when the sun was lower, the wind was calmer and the tourists were all back in their hotels having dinner leaving the mountains a haven of peace and calm.
Sauli and Victoria were the perfect couple to work with and their Glencoe elopement will be one that I shall remember for a very long time for all the right reasons.

On the most glorious of spring days we travelled to the unspoiled Ardnamurchan peninsula, on the very western tip of Scotland, for Emily and Leo's elopement at the stunning Mingary Castle near Kilchoan.
Emily and Leo had complete flexibility with their timings so we made the most of the approaching golden hour and had a four o'clock ceremony with the beautiful isle of Mull as a backdrop with some cocktails and otter-viewing afterwards (I didn't manage to see them because I was too busy photographing 😔)
They had already fallen in love with the deserted remote beaches of nearby Sanna Bay the day before so we decided to make a little side-trip to finish the day as the sun was setting in one of the most marvellous locations Scotland has to offer.

BRIDAL NOIR 💍🖤
No guests, no seating plans, no speeches. Eloping is definitely an unconventional way to seal the deal, but that’s the beauty of it! You can turn tradition on its head through the location you pick, the ceremony style you choose and even the dress you wear!
Congratulations to the brilliant Brandin & Jillian who tied the knot this afternoon❤️

FASHIONABLY LATE 💍👌
One of the loveliest things about eloping is that there’s no stressful schedule to stick to. This morning’s fabulous couple are running a wee bit late, but with views like this, who’s complaining 😍

WHEN YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW 🏰💍
Especially when it comes to castles! Some of our couples have no idea where they want to get married. Others spot a castle while sailing past the west coast of Scotland and think, “Yep, that’s the one”.
That’s exactly what happened when Emily & Leo cruised by the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, clocked the mighty Mingary Castle and promptly decided it would be the spot they'd tie the knot!
A gorgeous couple and day at the beginning of May

ASCENDING TO THE ALTAR 💍🗻
Photographs of couples heading towards their ceremony spot is our favourite thing. It’s definitely not conventional, but walking to the aisle Bog Cotton style is the BEST.

GLORY BE ⛪️💍
Today Paula swapped heather and hill for altar and arch; something that usually isn’t possible, unless, of course, the church has been deconsecrated. Lucky for her, St Mary's in Appin has, which meant she had the absolute joy of marrying the delightful Chloe & Jason in true Humanist style - inside a church!
Every single inch of this shabby-chic, maximalist marvel is pure magic. It’s romantic, inspirational and wildly unique; a place cherished from top to toe by its brilliant owners, Charlotte & Jamie.
Tonight, Chloe & Jason will be treated to a beautifully prepared feast of local scallops and venison, lovingly cooked by Charlotte & Jamie themselves, before retreating to their cute woodland cabin nestled in the grounds.
If you’re on the hunt for an intimate elopement venue (maximum 15 guests), this is it.

Who are we?
When photographer, Trevor Wilson, and Humanist Celebrant, Paula Wilkinson, met in 2018 at the wedding of Rebecca and Leigh at ancient Castle Tioram on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it was the beginning of an exciting new venture that has since taken them on a marrying mission across the Highlands of Scotland where they’ve been honoured to be involved in the creation of some seriously epic elopements!
It was the simplicity, beauty and romance of Rebecca and Leigh’s elopement to such a wild, wonderful and remote part of Scotland that captured both Trevor and Paula’s imagination and so it was decided that they would join forces and offer loved-up couples a bespoke, adventure elopement experience that would knock their socks off and so Bog Cotton Scottish Elopements was born!
Bog Cotton may sound like something you might flush down the toilet, but it’s actually a gloriously ethereal flower which grows out of peat bogs across the wilds of Scotland. Aside from the fact that the sight of thousands of white, fluffy Bog Cotton heads dotted across a windswept glen is incredible, the message behind something so beautiful having the ability to grow out of nothing but mud, is the perfect analogy to Trevor and Paula’s vision for their adventure elopements. Plus, if you stretch your imagination a little, Bog Cotton even looks like tiny veiled faerie brides!
So if you’re looking to elope to the Scottish wilderness for a one-of-a-kind micro wedding, then look no further. Paula and Trevor will use their extensive knowledge of Scotland to find your perfect ceremony location. By getting to know your preferred landscape, how adventurous you’re willing to get, the number of guests attending as well a plethora of other factors, they can determine the best possible location and timeline for your big day.
Trevor is based near Glasgow and has twenty years experience as a wedding and travel photographer and has captured the magic at hundreds of elopements and weddings all over Scotland throughout his career. Specialising is a more informal documentary style of photography he is perfectly suited to capturing your elopement for you, no matter where you choose to have it or what happens on the day. He definitely prefers to photograph more relaxed and intimate weddings and feels that you can really focus on the important parts of a wedding ceremony that way. Absolutely loving the Scottish wilderness Trevor is more than happy to work with you to help choose a location that will add that extra bit of beauty to your photographs whilst keeping the adventurous aspect at a comfortable level for you.
Paula lives in the western Highlands and trained as a Celebrant with Fuze Ceremonies and now represents the company across the Highlands and Islands. Having graduated with first class honours in English Literature and Journalism, she loves the creative element of writing and delivering wedding scripts. Paula firmly believes that no matter what your journey as a couple, it is a one of a kind love story and she is eager to tell the tale! Due to her affiliation with Fuze Ceremonies, Paula is fully insured and benefits from the Fuze “back-up” promise, so even if she is struck down by illness on the morning of your big day, there’s a full back-up procedure in place to assure your big day can still go ahead.
Both Trevor and Paula are mildly obsessed, okay MASSIVELY obsessed, with mega adventurous couples and will climb mountains, kayak into the middle of lochs or stand on a beach in a storm to capture the perfect moment to ensure your memories from your big day will never be forgotten. They’re also obsessed with dogs at weddings!
