📢 How to get the most from your cut flowers so you can keep them going in that vase for a few more days 🙌. I also take out any of the flowers that have gone over because some flower varieties just last longer than others 🌹🥀

I'd love to hear your tricks for keeping your cut flowers lasting longer 🌼

Focusing on these 6 seeds this year because last year I sowed lots of different types with varying degrees of success. This year is all about good old quality over quantity 👩‍🌾

1. Scabious - I successfully grew 2 plants last year and they produced so many flowers, so I'm just imagining the floral abundance if I can grow more this year 🙌
2. Cosmos - in my experience, the easiest of all these to grow and the flowering plants last into late summer and beyond
3. Zinnia - 🐌 every single seedling got eaten by slugs last year, the only way is up!
4. Cosmos - shorter oranges and yellows to try this time around 🤞
5. Sweet peas - need soaking before they're sown. 🌼 The more these are cut, the more flowers grow
6. Snapdragons - 🐲 I managed a few of these last year so fingers crossed I'll be able to grow more this time around!

Have you chosen any seeds you're growing this year?

Something to plan for and look forward to 🌷. Spring bud vases for the table with seasonal UK grown flowers.
📒 Here's the recipe:
• Handful of daffodils
• Ranunculus, bud stems included
• Blush green hellebores
• Sprigs of viburnum

Start collecting your glass bottles now for really easy and simple table centre flowers 🌼, when the bulbs start popping up over the coming months. You can reuse little perfume bottles, chilli sauce bottles and mini gin bottles. And you don't need huge bunches of flowers to make an impact, just a few stems

Hi I'm Alex!

I founded Webb and Farrer as a florist in 2014 and now I'm enthusiastic about home grown and locally farmed flowers 👩‍🌾. In the floristry industry, so many of the flowers have been exported in from across the world so growing and arranging our own is a great alternative and helps our pollinators out too 🐝 🦋
This year I am hoping for a few less snails than last year though and more sweet peas, nasturtiums, clematis flowers and forget me nots.
What are you growing this year?

Packing up Christmas today and hoovering up the pineneedles. I'm very tempted to look straight ahead to Spring and skip past Jan and Feb.
But to get the garden ready for when it gets light and warmer, I've been planning fun things for the next few weeks. The most important task is to get my Spring bulbs in this week! I got some bargain tulip bulbs from b&q so we'll see how those do and I'll show you those this week.

Planning what to sow and when from the tin of seeds. Definitely feel one step closer to being a gardener now I have an allocated seed tin.

Are you growing anything new in the garden for this summer? I'll be growing the cupcake cosmos variety and also these colourful carrots 🥕 and maybe a prize winning marrow 🏆 if I'm lucky

Let me know your favourite dried flowers 👇

For me it's got to be the straw flower. They're also known as everlasting flowers and you'll usually find them featuring in the dried flower crown workshop 🌼
