After 54 hrs and 48 minutes, Tom finished the Challenger North just after midnight last night, and in 5th place!
The conditions were hard, with snow and lots of ice on higher ground but also the weather probably turned out worse than the forecast, with quite a lot of rain over the first night and on and off a lot on the 2nd day. Luckily the last day was mostly dry and a nice night to be up on the Cheviot Hills with sky full of stars.
The run wasn’t without issues, and Tom was more-than-half expecting to drop at Dufton (50 miles) as the top of his quads had tightened up so much, plus he bent his left knee back the wrong way about 20 miles in, then again at 40 miles, making a slow section from CP1 - CP 1.5 at Dufton of walking it all. Luckily some rest and gentle stretches helped settle it for a good while, and he ran better again from there.
A MASSIVE thankyou to everyone that messaged via the tracking and individually - it’s such a massive boost and lovely to have contact with friends during! 🙏😍🙏
Oh, and to whoever thought it would be a good idea that on the nav screen on your Suunto it counts DOWN the miles remaining - WHAT WERE YOU THINKING ?! 🤷🏼♂️🤣
