FOR SALE – Original Painting: "Silver Darlings" (2015)
UPDATE!!!!! THIS HAS BEEN SOLD!!
After holding onto this piece for nearly a decade, I’ve decided it’s finally time to let it go and let someone else enjoy it as much as I have.
“Silver Darlings” is part of a series I painted in 2015, inspired by the herring industry and the deep connections between Scotland and East Anglia. Back then, I had no idea I’d end up living in Scotland—10 years and one full-circle moment later, here we are.
This painting is especially close to my heart. The plate the herrings rest on? It’s from the same set I grew up eating off. And the memory behind it? Being woken in the early hours to help my dad—who was a crab fisherman in Cromer—pull herring from the nets. That night, the catch was so heavy it made the tractor rear up onto its back wheels. I remember being covered in herring scales, trying to stay awake at school the next day, and smelling of the sea no matter how much I washed!
It’s painted in acrylic, watercolour, and pen on paper, and it’s a one-off original.
If you’re into coastal art, heritage stories, or just love a good bit of East Coast nostalgia—this one’s for you.
