Have you booked in for Spoon Carving and Lunch (provided by Eastfield) with Louise Forbes yet ? There are still a few spots left and it is a workshop not be missed.

Sunday 21st September : 10:00-16:00 | £90
https://www.guardswell.co.uk/store/p/spoon-carving-with-louise-forbes-sep-2025

It’s hard to describe the pleasure you get from stirring something with your own kitchen spoon, sprinkling sugar on strawberries from a wooden teaspoon carved by yourself, or even just sitting and rubbing your thumb over the bowl of something that you lovingly spent hours crafting. Whether its a stirring spoon or a coffee scoop... you'll leave with something you'll love forever.
We have managed to pin down the amazing Louise Forbes, of Louise Forbes design fame, to run another Spoon Carving day course at Guardswell Farm. It will be a jolly affair with happy chatter, all tools and materials provided...and you'll leave with a spoon that you carved yourself!

We'll also break for a seasonal lunch provided by Eastfield (Dundee) to ensure that tummies are not left rumbling...as well as tea and coffee flowing throughout the day.

WORK WITH US

We are looking for a Guardswellie… an all rounder on the farm, with the majority of hours being housekeeping, with other tasks thrown in such as helping at events or out on the farm.

A cheerful bod who can keep the Huts, Houses + Steading shipshape and help us with our Events. Someone who has a mad desire to organise, to put things back into their place and spots the most minuscule little smudges on windows.

You really care about the little details, and are a tidy and organised person. You love the outdoors, you want a job that’s a little bit varied - and you are also physically active (some of our huts are up a hill) and mopping the Cattle Court is a proper core workout in itself. We’re a wee team so you will need to be a bit of an all rounder - we all muck in where needed and you MUST love dogs!

24+ hours per week. There may be some evening + weekend work but hours are mostly over 3 days / 0900-1700 / Monday, Wednesday and Friday. £12.50ph.

We still have a few spots left with SAVOUR | Gentle Yoga and Seasonal Lunch by Eastfield | Saturday 23rd August | 10.00 - 14.00 | Book Here : https://www.guardswell.co.uk/store/p/savour-gentle-yoga-and-eastfield-seasonal-lunch

It will be the most perfect weekend reset - with the change of the seasons - to slow down and nourish.

Can you recall the last time you intentionally savoured a positive experience? A moment, a flavour, a sip, a scent, a feeling or emotion, the season. Slowing, guiding focus to a feeling of pure, simple enjoyment.

Come, gather, linger… for a morning of savouring at Guardswell Farm. Beginning with a gentle yoga practice, we’ll explore mindful movement which invites us to take our time, together. We’ll move slowly, with a sense of curiosity, and the release of expectation. What might you notice- when you feel unrushed?

A dreamy, restful savasana will conclude our practice.
Following class, we’ll sit down to share a delicious, seasonal lunch prepared by Harris from Eastfield, who intentionally cooks with the seasons, creating simple, flavourful dishes that invite us to slow down and enjoy.

After lunch, you are very welcomed to linger a little longer around the farm- whether that’s sitting down to soak in the view, or wandering up to the boat… or just a bit farther to the swings.
Take your time. Savour.

GRASSLAND FUNGI WORKSHOP WITH MONICA WILDE | 22nd September

We’re really looking forward to welcoming Monica Wilde, Matthew Rooney and Neville Kilkenny to Guardswell for a Grassland Fungi Mondi + Seasonal Lunch by Ballintaggart.

Monday 22nd September | 10.00 to 16.00 | £130 | Book Here:

Hosted in the ancient, grassland habitat around the Farm - which is a very special habitat, as most traditional grassland has been destroyed by intensive or chemical farming. In 2020, we found over 70 grassland species when surveying the farmland. This is a unique opportunity to study grassland fungi species in one location.

We will spend the morning out looking for fungi and collecting specimens. After a lovely lunch provided by Ballintaggartt , we will lay out and discuss all the fungi encountered. We will cover how one identifies them, which are considered the best edibles (or medicinals) and the perils of collecting those that aren’t. We will take you through using mycological keys, look at spores through the microscope and discuss identification at the spore level. We will also demonstrate easy chemical identification techniques.
There are several tutors so we can work in groups, so everyone will have plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy the day. Your tutors have a wide range of experience between them.

Matthew Rooney is a botanical and mycological surveyor, and foraging teacher. He grew native British mushrooms commercially for 25 years and, with his brother, discovered a British reishi mushroom Ganoderma lucidum var. Rooney. Matthew also teaches mushroom cloning and cultivation techniques. He is especially keen to promote rewilding mushrooms to preserve and increase their native range. He is a member of the British Mycological Society.

Neville Kilkenny trained as a mycologist under Professor Roy Watling at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh where he is a Research Associate. He is a member of the British Mycological Society, The Fungus Conservation Trust, and an honorary life member of The Danish Mycological Society. His main focus is conservation, understanding the diversity and ecological needs of fungi, and educating people regarding their role in our ecosystems and in our everyday lives.

Monica Wilde is a foraging teacher and research herbalist. She teaches the medicinal mushroom segment on the Royal Botanic Garden's Herbology Diploma course and lectures for the UK Medicinal Mushroom Conference. She is a founding member of the Association of Foragers, a member of the British Mycological Society and a Fellow of the Linnean Society. Monica is also the author of 'The Wilderness Cure', a book recording a year of living only on wild food and our relationship with nature.
