đŽ MARRIAGE AS A WITCHCRAFT RITUAL
As much as I loved Disney growing up and the idea of âhappily ever afterâ I never truly saw marriage and children as my personal goal. I believed in magic, love, and dreams coming true, but for me, that magic was never about marriage or children. My mission felt more about creating something meaningful, helping others, and leaving my own mark on the world.Even as a child, I didnât fantasize about walking down the aisle, I dreamed about creating and expressing myself freely in ways that would inspire people. And I still believe that what you naturally wish for as a child, before the world tells you what you should want is often a clue to your true destiny.Itâs strange how many people get caught in comparison, trying to keep up with what others are doing, measuring their success by career milestones or marriage plans. But I never envied that version of life. In fact, it felt forced, performative, and in many cases, unhealthy.
What many people donât actually realise is that Marriage is a witchcraft ritual. We go to A sacred space (altar/church/temple) and have Spoken vows to take the partners surname and use Symbols of power (rings, veils, flowers) with Offerings/exchanges for good luck. The legal and energetic joining of two souls is a binding spell, None of this is accidental. The marriage ritual is designed to bind energy, lineage, property, and spirit. One thing that never felt right to me is Asking the father for his daughterâs hand in marriage, a contract between two men seems like The daughter (bride) was property to the father until she became her husbandâsđ Just like the bride walking down the aisle, she is led from one manâs household to another, symbolizing transfer of ownership. This still exists symbolically today even if we no longer admit it and it is mind boggling to me that very few actually question it!! Historically, marriage for many women wasnât about love, it was about survival, status, or family duty. Once married, a woman often became her husbandâs legal property, with no rights to her own money, body, or freedom. Love was not the point, it was about legacy, and labor. Marriage was designed to control womenâs bodies and bind families through bloodlines. Now, with women having Access to education, Financial independence, Emotional awareness and Spiritual evolution Women are reclaiming their masculine energy not to become men, but to become whole alone. Theyâre saying âI donât need a man to own me. If I choose to love, itâs a soul agreement, not a survival strategy.â This shift is cracking the foundation of traditional marriage which is why divorce rates are rising. Many People married out of social expectation, trauma bonding, or romantic fantasy, not true alignment. Women are no longer afraid to leave when itâs toxic, empty, or unfulfilling. Studies show men often suffer more post
divorce with health issues, emotional isolation, substance abuse, lower life expectancy. Many men relied on their partner for emotional support, social connection, or basic health habits. Women, meanwhile, often thrive post divorce, reconnecting with self, community, and purpose.
đŞ SYMBOLISM MAGIC
đ Rings = Binding spells
⢠The circle is a symbol of eternity, a magical seal.
⢠Worn on the âring fingerâ because it was believed to connect directly to the heart chakra (vein of love).
⢠The exchange of rings is a mutual pact of energetic union.
đď¸ Vows = Spoken spells
⢠Words are vibrational spells. âTo have and to hold, till death do us partâ is a powerful spoken binding.
⢠These phrases are often said in sacred space, in front of witnesses and a figure of spiritual authority just like in witchcraft. (Taking the surname of the groom)
đ¸ Flowers = Fertility & offering
⢠Brides carry bouquets as offerings symbolic of fertility and beauty.
⢠In Pagan times, herbs and flowers were used to ward off spirits, enhance attraction, and bring luck.
đ° White Dress = Purity spell
⢠White = purity, virginity, sacrifice (think: lamb to the altar).
⢠In magical symbolism, white also represents ether/spirit realms, making the bride a kind of spiritual vessel for the ritual.
đ§ââď¸ SO WHY DONâT WE QUESTION IT?
Weâre taught to aspire to it without understanding its roots. But those roots are ancient and intertwined with ritual, ownership, and spellcraft. Iâm not Saying to reject the idea of marriage but maybe take into consideration the spell binding that youâre performing during these rituals. More people should Ditch traditions that feel like control and start asking why not just go with the flow because everyone does it and itâs the easy thing to do.
Be careful who you marry, not just because of the legal and emotional impact, but because of the spiritual ties you create. Marriage forms karmic cords and energetic bonds that go beyond this lifetime. Even if you divorce, those cords donât dissolve on their own. If you donât consciously cut them through healing, inner work, or ritual you carry that unfinished karma into your next life. The lesson repeats until itâs resolved. Thatâs why itâs not just about who you love, but who you bind yourself to, soul to soul.
