🎙️ An Evening with John Agard + Philip Nanton 🌿
Join us on Friday 31st October 2025 at 8pm for a special celebration of words, culture, and storytelling, hosted at Wainsgate Chapel. Tickets are £15. Doors (and flavours!) open early – we’ll be serving Caribbean food from 6.30pm. 🎶
✨ Why you won’t want to miss this:
Hear John Agard, an internationally celebrated poet, playwright, and writer, whose work has resonated with generations. He grew up in Guyana and his playful yet powerful command of language is rooted in his early years listening to cricket commentaries and stories on the radio.
WAINSGATE CHAPEL
Agard is a recipient of hundreds of accolades, including the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry, the BookTrust Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Paul Hamlyn Award. His poems have been a staple in GCSE curriculums across the UK for decades.
He’ll be joined by Philip Nanton, a poet, spoken-word artist and broadcaster, known for his wit, warmth, and powerful storytelling.
We’ll finish with a Q&A led by Melanie Abrahams (Director of Renaissance One) – your chance to ask questions and dive deeper into the themes, inspirations and craft of words.
