The towering spikes of flowers of our Yucca Filamentosa are looking glorious currently. It was gifted to us as a tiny plant by another National Garden Scheme owner about four years ago. We grew it in a patio pot for a couple of years, but it really needs a lot of space as the leaves are very sharp and pointed. Its eventual home is a large gravel bed at the very end of the garden.

Our Thalictrum flowers have been a big hit with our flower arrangers this year. Their airy, architectural form makes them perfect for flower arrangements and bouquets.

Most Thalictrum flower from July through to September but the current dry weather has meant a much shorter flowering season in our garden. We grow Thalictrum delavayi 'Ankum' and Thalictrum Splendide White, herbaceous perennials, in sunny and shady spots of the garden.

I understand that these plants are deer and rabbit proof so I may venture to start growing much more of it at the bottom of our field next year.

Last week at The Bath Greenhouse, we had the pleasure of hosting two separate events for two mums and their daughters for a wedding bouquet creation workshop. They joined us to learn how to use their own garden-grown flowers for their upcoming weddings, a trend that has become increasingly popular.

While flowering your own wedding is a wonderful idea, we believe that mastering the hand-tied bouquet can greatly benefit from some tuition. Achieving that airy, natural, garden-gathered look involves more than just spiraling the stems; it also requires careful selection of shapes and colours.

For this event, we utilized a variety of stems including nigella, fennel, zinnias, asters, grasses, gypsophila, thalictrum, delphiniums, solidago, and dogwood. We also discussed the importance of incorporating fragrant elements like roses, stocks, or freesias.

The workshop concluded with a lesson on gift wrapping bouquets. It's quite easy to get hooked on growing your own cut flowers, so I'm sure these ladies will enjoy gifting their beautiful creations to family and friends.

"I would highly recommend the bouquet workshop with Maria. My mother and I had a super time. Maria was very welcoming and knowledgeable. She has given us the confidence to have a go at making our own bouquets with flowers from our gardens. The cake was yummy too 😋 "

Last week, we hosted a private workshop where a small group learned to create hand-tied dried flower bouquets. I wanted to share a lovely image I captured of one of our participants with her perfectly spiralled bouquet.

She chose mainly neutral flowers, beautifully accented with blue delphiniums, eryngium, and white paper daisies. The base of the bouquet was scented with recently dried lavender from our cutting garden. It was a really lovely bouquet!

Flower Crowns continue to be a popular Hen Party activity at The Bath Greenhouse, especially for Brides to Be who appreciate gardens, floristry, and British cut flowers. We have recently harvested and dried another crop of cutting flowers for workshop activities. This group of friends made some absolutely stunning flower crowns.

Last Saturday, we celebrated Hen Party on a gorgeous sunny day. For the event, guests had the choice of making two designs of fresh flower summer wreaths: a full wreath with hydrangeas, fountain grass, seed heads, and blackberries, or a half-moon wreath featuring garden-grown flowers selected to dry on a vine base. Everyone did an amazing job creating their wreaths, as you can see from the attached photograph.
