Super day on St Martin’s! Found a flower farm and they very kindly gave us a little tour and chat. Thank you !

Across the far side of the island we came across a florist setting up for a tiny wedding, so obviously I said hello and got to chat about flowers again!

Fresh crab sarnies for lunch paired with a drop of chilled Pinot Grigio and we were ready to hop on the boat back to St Mary’s. Such a super day!

Keeping it real here today! I’m just not one of those ‘waft around the garden in a pretty dress’ kind of gardener. As a one woman band, I’m a ‘roll those sleeves up and get stuck in’ kinda girl. The ‘I’m going to the garden for an hour and end up doing five’ or ‘oh dear god, I have so much to do and I’m not sure where to even start’, kind of girl!

My flower patch is run on blood, sweat, occasionally tears and often panic. Panic that I’m behind, I haven’t sown enough or the right things, I should have pricked out those seedlings or planted them out by now. I should be more on the ball with my socials, I need to ask customers for Google reviews, sweet Jesus why am I so tired!

Truth is, Castle Combe Flower Patch is my side-hustle and my very happy place, but I also work four days a week at a beautiful school in Bath, with a team of incredible women, and I value the balance immensely. Gardening can be a very solitary experience and for short periods, I really enjoy that. But I miss people. As much as I love to slope off to the depths of the paddock and disappear into my flowers, I relish being surrounded by intelligent (sometimes gloriously silly), conversation at work. So whilst the balance suits me, I’m still learning how to find the compromise and not be too hard on myself. It’s a work in progress, but thanks for sticking with me xx

A glorious weekend away in London with JG at Churchill’s War Rooms (highly recommend to any history geeks) followed by a mooch around The Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Two oldies struggled to get our faces in the picture with Big Ben. Turned out, it was one or the other! 😂🙄😂

Then it was back to Richmond Hill to see our eldest son and his wife, and their new flat with lovely views. Happy days with family in the sunshine. Is there anything better to feed the soul?

First thing I did when we got home was run to the greenhouse and water everything. Got carried away (obvs 🙄) and started potting on seedlings and making a plan for the big plant-out tomorrow. Next thing I knew it had been two hours and everyone’s asking me “what’s for dinner?” 🤷‍♀️🙄😂

Easter flowers! £10 for 10 stems of beautiful tulips and daffodils, grown here at my Flower Patch in Castle Combe, to brighten your Easter table or to gift to your hosts if you’re a guest.

The pale, buttery yellows mixed with the vibrant pinks, purples and oranges makes for such a jolly display. Bazillions of anemones too that can be added into bouquets for extra zing.

To buy bunches of just anemones, I regularly stock or you can buy directly from me too.

Spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils will usually bloom from the end of March, all through April and even into May. Cold nights, warm days and no rain has made them all come together now!

So I’m offering them this week only, 10 stems for £10. Help a girl out, and buy her flowers?🙏 xx

Well this is exciting! Last year I completely forgot about the p***y willow and by the time I got to it, those grey, furry little buds had started to turn yellow and produce pollen - not so pretty!

🌳 This year, I have harvested a little bunch that I am air drying
🌳 This year, I have taken cuttings that I hope will root
🌳This year, I will plant new seedlings so that I can harvest LOTS of p***y willow in the future
🌳This year, I will also harvest the pink p***y willow which isn’t quite ready yet.
🌳 This year, I will take cuttings of the pink p***y willow too.
🌳 Next year, there will be more to harvest to use in my spring bouquets 💐🥰🥳
🌳 Next year, I will be pleased that I was on the ball this year!

So much of gardening is paying attention to what’s happening now and patience for what will happen next. When Mother Nature calls the shots, you have to stay on the ball! 👀

January may seem like a dormant month in the flower garden, but beneath the surface, the earth is stirring. This is a time for planning, gentle maintenance, and looking forward to the first signs of life returning. The days are still short, and frost lingers, but there is a quiet beauty in the garden now—a promise of what’s to come. 🌱🪴🌿🌼🌻🌷

Do you love fresh flowers? Sweet peas are sooo easy to grow, right? Well, truth be told it’s a mixed bag of yes and no!

After just 7 days on a warm windowsill in the house, my 2025 sweet peas have germinated. Now they go straight out to the brighter, natural light of the greenhouse before they grow tall and leggy. Super easy, huh? Well…

Sweet peas are so very joyful, but they do need work! They are hardy little plants, so can be planted out in March/April if you’re ready with the frost cloth for a chilly night. As they grow, they need support and will be happy winding their way up a bamboo wigwam, a fence or trellis. And be sure to site them in a sunny spot - not enough warmth and they can sulk.

Every few days, they need to be tied into their support so they don't flop. If you don’t stay on top of this, they quickly get unruly, with tendrils everywhere and shorter, wonky stems. This truly is a constant labour of love.

Sweet peas are hungry and thirsty little blighters! They need a lot of water and at least once a week, a feed with a weak seaweed solution.

Once they start to flower, they are the gift that keeps on giving - the more you cut, the more they give you! At least once a week, I cut every flower, and within a few days, more buds start blooming. What a joy! But forget to do this and they quickly set seed, meaning no more flowers.

So why grow these attention seeking divas? Their scent is like nothing else and their ruffled little petals come in so many colours. If you cut deeper, you can have the wiggly tendrils which I love.

You won’t find sweet peas in florists shops or supermarkets so I hope if you see someone selling them at a village shop, farm shop or farmers market, you appreciate the months of love, work and time they have given so you have a little bit of heaven to enjoy at home.

Wherever you live, please support your local flower growers 🥰

The first arrivals from the 2025 seed order - always soooo exciting! Especially as I’ve just had a big sort through my seed boxes and binned anything old or out of date.

I love ordering from Higgledy Garden as the seeds always have good germination rates and the empty packets can go straight in the compost. Business owner, Ben, lives with his dog Flash on their canal boat named Casper. Give them a follow - it’s very entertaining!

There’s another seed order on the way from and I’m currently perusing the online shop of the lovely Melanie from

Seeds from are also excellent quality and she’s a brilliant teacher if you want to learn about growing from seed. Just give her a follow!

Are you growing flowers this year? Where do you buy your seeds from? If you have bought any yet, give one of my recommendations a try. Happy growing!

And…that’s a wrap! is now closed for Christmas!

Finally, I’m feeling festive after a very jolly week, starting with a workshop at my home studio on Wednesday evening. Then Friday morning brought a session as part of the staff enrichment programme in which colleagues from every department came together to embrace their creativity. Today I rounded the year off with two more lovely ladies back at my home studio. They all made gorgeous wreaths with beautiful, British, seasonal foliage.

Thank you to everyone who has joined me at a workshop, ordered a bespoke wreath or bought one of my wreaths from . Together, we have produced over 85 wreaths in the last two weeks! Your support of my little business has been amazing and very much appreciated 🤩

Wishing you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas xx
