Two pretty posies off to Wigtown this morning. Giles of Elmlea plants who previously sold some of my jam jar posies on his stall was at Wigtown Market for the last time on Saturday last week. Scott Purdie has very kindly agreed to find a corner for these on his excellent fruit and vegetable stall this morning. Unfortunately there won’t be a full market this week as high winds are forecast this afternoon.

These four beauties went to Wigtown Market this morning where Giles of Elmlea Plants will have them for sale on his stall. The weather is dull today, but the posies are looking sunny!

Two pretty posies which will be on sale at Galloway Heathers Garden Centre tomorrow. I braved the midges this morning to cut the flowers, which have been conditioning in buckets of water all day. These are some of my first sunflowers and probably the last of the snapdragons.

One thing I really struggle with is taking photos of my flowers. If I could only remember to take them it would be a good start! I don’t know how many times since I’ve been delivering flowers locally that I have grown them, cut them, stripped off the foliage, left them to condition in buckets of water for several hours, arranged them, put them in their jars or vases, packed them carefully into my car and been half way to the address where they were to be delivered, only to remember that I had forgotten to take a photo of them! That’s what happened with this large jam jar posy that I delivered on Saturday. Fortunately the lady who received them let me take a photo of them on her table, so I was able to send it to her friend who had ordered them as I promised.

Survivors from Storm Floris! My cut flower beds had a bit of a battering but these beautiful sunflowers were still useable for weekend flowers. I was relieved to see that the runner bean wigwams in the vegetable garden were still upright and I enjoyed some for dinner yesterday.

I’m still only just recovering from the weekend wedding! It’s good to get back to my flowers though, and I’ve just finished making up these two posies. I always say that I don’t really arrange my flowers, I just introduce a few from my garden that I think might get along. I believe these will enjoy hanging out together! They will be on sale at Galloway Heathers Garden Centre in Minnigaff tomorrow.

An unexpected guest at the wedding on Saturday. My daughter works as a veterinary receptionist some distance away. This is the second leveret that has been dropped off at the practice, by no doubt well meaning people, who have “rescued” them, believing that they had been abandoned by their mother. Mother hares often leave their young for several hours at a time and come back to feed them. If you are lucky enough to find one in the wild it’s best not to touch it. Mum knows where it is. Raising them by hand takes a lot of patience and dedication. The first leveret is almost big enough to be released back into the wild, so my daughter managed to leave him with a colleague. She had only had this little lady a few days so she came to the wedding with my daughter, surviving a ferry ride and several hours in a car. She was left in a quiet place in her box during the celebrations!

I’ve had an extremely busy couple of weeks preparing for a very special wedding which took place on Saturday. All weddings are special of course, and it’s always an honour when a couple ask me to be a small part of their big day. This wedding was extra special though as my middle son and his beautiful bride chose to get married in the front garden of our house. It was a wonderful day and fortunately the weather was perfect and the fearsome Glentrool midges kept away. These are some of the table flowers, all grown here.

Another hot day forecast. Yesterday I cut my flowers for Wigtown Market when it was a little cooler in the evening and they had the night conditioning in buckets of water in my cool hallway. I’ve only made up two posies this week, because I know they won’t last well if they’re in the hot sun, even in their jam jars. If you get to the market at opening time and take them home and put them in a cool place they should be fine. As usual Giles of Elmlea Plants will have these for sale on his stall.
