Fantastic news and a testament to all those that work so hard on the Westgate Gardens, our home!

Green Flags will once again be flying at three of the district’s stunning open spaces.

The prestigious award has gone to the Westgate Parks, Reculver Country Park and the Gorrell Valley Nature Reserve (formerly Duncan Down) in this week's announcement by Keep Britain Tidy for the 2025 season.

All three sites are owned by the council and are managed in partnership with volunteer organisations.

These organisations are the Friends of Westgate Parks, the Friends of the Gorrell Valley Nature Reserve, HatHats at Reculver and the Friends of Reculver and Bishopstone.

Green Flags recognise parks and green spaces that have high standards of management, follow environmentally-friendly practices and involve the community to create attractive places for people and wildlife to enjoy.

We are very pleased to announce our first charity partnership for the Canterbury City Show 2026. Mayah’s Legacy believe that every woman deserves to feel heard in healthcare and they are here to help you feel confident, speak up, and get heard. We can’t wait to host them at the show and help them to share their important message across our platform over the next 12 months.

The Canterbury City Show returns in 2026, and we’re looking for local businesses to partner with us and be part of something special. This not-for-profit event will transform Westgate Gardens and St Dunstans into a joyful, inclusive celebration of Canterbury’s creativity, food, music and community spirit.

With thousands of visitors expected and a strong social media presence through local networks reaching over 100,000 people, it’s a powerful platform for your business. Ever wanted to advertise on CRG or CCG? This is your chance, via our big event! You’ll align your brand with a much-loved city event, build loyalty with local audiences, and help create something the whole community can be proud of.

If your business has a budget of £500 or more, we’d love to talk. From sponsoring a stage to supporting family activities, there are lots of ways to get involved.

Get in touch at www.canterburycityshow.co.uk/contact or send us a message to chat about what we can do together.

We’re very sad to share that there will be no Canterbury City Show in 2025.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, but ultimately, the funding simply isn’t there to deliver the event this year. As many of you know, the Canterbury City Show has always been a completely free, non-profit celebration of our city, designed to give local charities, organisations, and community groups a platform to shine without cost or barrier. None of the team behind it take a penny; every pound goes into making it happen.

But it does cost thousands of pounds to put on, and without support, we just can’t make it work. Last year, we received no funding from the council, and unfortunately, there are no funding opportunities available for us again this year. Local businesses are facing increased pressures, particularly around rising costs and changes to national insurance, making it harder for them to contribute. Our local universities, too, are feeling the strain. It’s a tough time out there for everyone.

So rather than try to push through and deliver something that wouldn’t reflect the spirit of the show, we’ve made the decision to pause.

But, and this is important, the Canterbury City Show isn’t over.

We fully intend to return in 2026, and we’re optimistic that the financial situation will have improved by then, so that we can come back stronger, brighter, and ready to bring the community together once more in Westgate Gardens.

We know this will be disappointing to many, and we share that disappointment deeply. It’s becoming harder and harder to run meaningful community events in Canterbury. Events are expensive and, ironically, not very profitable—yet they bring so much joy, pride, and togetherness. Too often, that value isn’t recognised by those with the power to support them. We hope that changes.

Thank you for all your support so far, and we’ll see you in 2026.

Please join us in congratulating Pippa Nelson on their enthronement as the Archpoet of Canterbury! Pippa blew away the audience at last night Canterbury City Slam spoken word and poetry event in the Westgate Towers, which closed off another amazing year at the Canterbury City Show. We can't wait to work with Pippa to keep the community spirit alive until 2025 when we do it all again! ☀️
