Despite the wet spring work progresses nicely at the allotment. Got a good weeding session in today. Thankfully mostly sunshine but cold, some rain on and off. The bed I weeded on the old plot was surprisingly dry. I definitely need to get a good load of mulch on the new plot to improve the soggy soil there.
Loads of seedlings pricked out too, trays shuffeled and pots readied to take to the allotment to plant out and make space for more trays 🙃 Who else is doing the spring time seedling shuffle?

You could be growing these flowers this summer! Why not treat the kids or yourself to one of our Lets Grow bags that include 5 packets of seeds and a dahlia tuber? An excellent project to start this Easter break.

Available while stocks last through or directly from us. Collection only.

If people saw all the hard and muddy work going into growing my flowers would they still think them "too expensive"?
Arguably I'm actually not charging enough.

Why not start a flower patch with your kids this easter break or a cutting patch for yourself?

Here's what you get in our "Lets Grow" bags:
5 packets of seeds & 1 dahlia

We have a Grow kit for adults to start a cutflower patch and a special kids edition with childfriendly flowers that also make fantastic posies.

Lots of new growth already at the allotment so I started cutting back to not cause damage later. Mostly roses and other shrubs but also a handful of herbacious plants.
The Veronica, Lupin, Catmint, Mint & Lemonbalm are looking good.
The standing water at the new plot has disappeared thankfully but the soil there is still quite sodden and some plants look a bit bedraggled like the Campanula, while others don't show any sign of life yet. Looking at you Yarrow, Agastache & Solidago.
I'm not holding my breath for the Rudbeckia hirta but triloba should come back. The Aster as usual is getting hammered by slugs already and will need some assistance.

Remember not to tidy too much yet as our insect guests still hybernating or need places to shelter from the cold over night. The little ladybug I came across got covered over again with clippings. Hold off with most of the big spring garden tidy until the weather has warmed a bit more.

Had a quick check on the plots today on the way back from the play park. The new plot is completely sodden and even a bit flooded at the lower end. Might loose some of the dahlia seedlings I left in the ground.
The new plot looks fine, just needs a tidy and some weeding done. Looks like we might have some rhubarb soon. Oddly not a sign of the daffodils that I had growing several years near the roses. Something might have killed them. I don't think they are just late since at the house some already started flowering.
That reminded me to make a last attempt to find the daffodil bulbs I lifted in the garden last year. I did. I left them sitting right were I lifted them, hidden by the compost sack but now raising their leaves as if to shout "We're here!". Potted the poor things up as the clump they are now. Maybe in autumn I will remember to plant them out.
The last picture is what our "lawn" looks like in places at the moment. It'll need more than a few sunny days to sort that out after all the rain we had.

Still not done packing those Grow kits... Don't ask.
But nearly there, just giving the dahlia tubers a clean now and some are eager to grow. While it's nice to see a few eyes on them to know they are there some are clearly a bit too eager like the one in picture 3. We certainly don't want long sprouts just yet.

Today I finished packing the seeds for the GYO flower kits. I still got to clean and pack the dahlia tubers and finalise the two different instruction leaflets.

These grow kits will include small amounts of seeds for the average gardener.
For local schools, gardening clubs and gardeners wanting to fill larger areas I can also offer bulk packages of Rudbeckia and Feverfew seeds. Please message me for more information.

Didn't get any crafting done over the school holidays and this week I was buys with inventory prep at my "real" job but today I had a couple of hours to myself to spend printing seed envelopes and grow pack bags.
Hopefully I'll get a few packs completed in time for Valentine's Day. I'm thinking a grow your own flowers pack instead of imported cutflower. What would you prefer?

Just tried out my new stamps that I bought to create floral greeting cards, pretty seed envelopes and grow-your-own gift bags. Might have to watch some tutorials 🙃
I don't think I picked the right ink for the paper as it seems to be running a bit. Maybe I'm putting to much ink on the stamp.
The lettering I chose also seems way to chunky along the delicate flowers.
Does anyone with experience in stamping want to share some tips?

The Pelargoniums and Bananas moved inside today with frosty nights coming our way.
I also re-covered the mini greenhouse, tied it down a bit and moved a bunch of dahlias in small pots inside to dry out and maybe have a little frost protection since smaller pots freeze faster. Fingers crossed it doesn't get that cold anytime soon.

By the time I was done this afternoon the sun was setting, I could see my breath in the air and the birds arrived to have dinner. Starlings at the bird feeder, a blackbird on the Pyracantha and the Robin checking out the patio where pots had been removed.
