Teesside’s Unofficial Zoo Hiding on Portrack Lane 🦎

I popped into Smiths Pets in Stockton for a quick browse and honestly didn’t expect to see this many animals in one place.

Inside there are lizards, snakes, spiders, tropical fish, stingrays, birds and loads more creatures you don’t usually get to see up close.

While we were there the staff started bringing some of the reptiles out to show the kids. They were letting them gently pet them while explaining loads of interesting facts about them. Not something you see every day.

One of the highlights for me was the huge aquarium area where you can watch stingrays gliding around the tanks alongside colourful tropical fish.

There are also birds and small mammals in another section, and pretty much everything you’d need to care for animals too.

If you’re interested in animals or just fancy seeing something a bit different in Teesside, Smiths Pets on Portrack Lane is definitely worth a visit.

Does anyone know about this hidden antique shop in Stockton? 👀

I was walking through Stockton and spotted this tiny doorway I’d never noticed before.

Inside is Al Ford’s Antiques, tucked away on Ramsgate right next to The Shambles on Stockton High Street.

The place is packed floor to ceiling with antiques. Paintings, lamps, bikes, old trains and all sorts of unique pieces. It honestly feels like stepping into another world.

A proper hidden gem in Stockton.

Have you ever been inside Al Ford’s?

There is something special about Hartlepool Headland when it’s quiet. 🌫️⚓

I love filming places that people don’t always talk about. While everyone heads to the Marina and Seaton Carew, the Headland is where the real history is. I spent the morning exploring the Heugh Battery Museum and wandering the backstreets, no crowds, just great views and that proper homely Teesside feel.

If you haven’t been for a while, this is your sign to go back. It’s exactly why I started Tees Explorer: to show what’s right on our doorstep that we sometimes overlook.

Teessides Pay-What-You-Want Restaurant

Recently I visited The Arc in Stockton, and checked out their restaurant, The Culture Kitchen but what makes it special?

They cook with food that’s been saved from waste, creating a different random menu every day.

The best part? You pay what you want! (They say the average spend is £3–£8).

I went for steak pie, chips, and peas and honestly, it was a proper hearty meal, much better than I expected.

The Arc itself is also a brilliant venue, hosting:

🎭 Live shows
🎬 Cinema
🎤 Comedy nights
🎶 Clubs and more

Prices are reasonable, the vibe is welcoming, and the Culture Kitchen & Arc are well worth checking out if you’re in Stockton.

Retro Cafe in Stockton Serving Crazy Cheap Meals

Found this quirky little spot in Stockton - Retro No. 9. 🍳☕
It’s half cafe, half retro shop, serving some of Teesside’s cheapest meals. A full fry-up for £5, coffee for £1, and shelves stacked with vintage band t-shirts and antiques. 🤘

The staff and regulars make it feel proper homely, and it’s right by Stockton’s flea market. Cheap, cheerful, and a bit different. 👌

Jumped on that trend where you ask AI to create something based on everything it knows about your business.

Because video is kind of my thing, I asked it to make a video of me doing my job… and it went a bit wild 😂
Interviews, events, products, food, houses… even a birth?!

For the record, I don’t film birth videos.
Only my own kids have that privilege 😅

wherever you look, This Is What Teesside Sees 🌫️➡️🌄

We recently visited Roseberry Topping in Teesside, North Yorkshire – probably the most famous hill in the area.

It’s a proper bucket-list walk for locals and tourists, standing at 320m high with two main routes: the steep chest-killer or the longer woodland path. Either way, it only takes about 25 minutes to reach the summit, where you’ll find sweeping views over Teesside and the North York Moors.

Fun fact: Roseberry Topping actually used to be taller, but part of it collapsed in 1912 after years of mining, leaving its unique jagged shape.

On the way back, we took the longer route towards the old shooting box, but if you’re braver you can head down the steep drop back to the car park.

And the perfect finish? A handmade vanilla ice cream from Suggett’s in Great Ayton – a Teesside tradition. 🍦

Time to grab a cup of tea, sit back… and edit ☕🎬

Just finished another interview style video for a healthcare company and these are still some of my favourite setups. Real people, real projects, and real work happening in the background.

Interview-led videos and short ad requests are landing in my inbox almost daily at the moment and it makes sense.

People buy from people they trust.
Seeing the face and hearing the voice behind a business builds that trust far quicker than graphics alone.

We create everything from 30-second paid ads to 3-minute brand videos, but the strongest results usually come down to one thing:

👉 the person on camera feels comfortable.

If you’re thinking about interview-style content but feel unsure, a few simple things really help:

• Do your intro twice (once at the start, once at the end)
• Treat it like a conversation, not a performance
• Take your time , pauses are fine, no need to rush
• Natural light works brilliantly if it’s available
• Pick a background that shows what you actually do
• Good audio matters more than perfect visuals
• Use bullet points, not scripts
• Expect a few takes, everyone needs them

And if being on camera really isn’t your thing, that’s fine too. Voiceover or narration led videos work just as well.

🏪 Not many towns have a market like this anymore…

Most Saturday mornings start the same for us. A wander through Stockton Market for veg, sweets, and a bite by the fountain.

It’s got everything you need:

Fresh fruit & veg for cheap
Kids raiding the sweet stalls
The tucked-away flea market in Green Dragon Yard
Noisy little train show that somehow always wins the kids over
A quick dash to Splash if we’re feeling brave
And always… sausage rolls from Cooplands

It’s simple, familiar, and honestly one of the best bits of living in Teesside.

If you haven’t been down in a while, give it another go. You’ll see how good it actually is.

I love Teesside, and January is honestly one of the best times to explore it ❄️

Places are quieter this time of year. you can slow down, take it all in, and enjoy it without the usual hustle and bustle. For someone like me who struggles in big crowds, it’s kind of perfect.

This is Seaton Carew 🏖️

Most people only think of it as a summer spot, but even out of season there’s a lot going for it, the seafront, the arcades, the food, and that laid-back seaside vibe you don’t get anywhere else.

I enjoy getting out and showing what’s here, especially the places people don’t always talk about. I wish I could do it more! Filming local spots is a big part of why I do what I do.
