Have you ever wondered what it means to tie the knot?

Handfasting is a beautiful, centuries-old symbolic ritual that can add something really special to your wedding or vow renewal ceremony.

The couple's hands are gently bound together using ribbons or cords, symbolising their love, unity and commitment to one another.

Each cord can represent something meaningful, such as love, trust, friendship or the joining of two families. You can involve children or other loved ones, making it a lovely way to include those closest to you.

Handfasting can be traditional, spiritual, romantic and completely personalised. The colours, words and symbolism are entirely yours.

And at the end? You can quite literally tie the knot! 🪢

Newburgh Priory offers a wonderfully romantic backdrop for your celebration. As your celebrant I don't just turn up, say beautiful words and leave. There’s getting to know you, planning, writing your personal ceremony including your love story, a bespoke poem if you'd like one, support along the way, rehearsing your ceremony so I'm not reading it all on the day and liaising with suppliers as needed.

On the day, I aim to arrive at least an hour before your ceremony to make sure the ceremony space is exactly how you want it and everything is ready. And if it’s a DIY wedding? Put me to work! I’m always happy to be an extra pair of hands.

Because your ceremony deserves much more than 30 minutes. ❤️

- "What can we say about Diana apart from Amazing! We decided that we would like to renew our wedding vows to mark our 10 year wedding anniversary with just us and our two sons on Whitby beach. We wanted to have handfasting as part of the ceremony which was no trouble at all. From our first contact with Diana we just knew that she was perfect to be the celebrant. We had an initial video consultation (due to distance) and she got some details from us and about our time together and to be quite honest, we didn't really need to do much else! We had planned to write some words to say to each other but when we received our first draft we were absolutely blown away and felt like Diana had encapsulated us as a couple and Family so well we didn't need to use the words we had put together.
The day came around and the weather was perfect (always a gamble in Whitby!) At the wise recommendation from Diana, we did have a beach hut hired on standby just in case! The tide was not quite our friend but we used the beautiful walkway out to the lighthouse. Diana had included our boys in the ceremony which was just beautiful. The ceremony was just beautiful and emotional. So much so our 7 year old cried! The handfasting was brilliant and such a fab way to renew our vows. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We signed a certificate and Diana had our two sons sign as witnesses and we were given a little folder of the words used and certificate together with a little gift and card from Diana. This is something we will cherish forever and have our certificate in a frame on our wall.
Diana is incredible and made our visions real life. Nothing was too much trouble.
We would absolutely recommend Diana to anyone and everyone.
