Sharon Bednall School of Dance

Children and Adults Dancing School in Waingroves and Marlpool, Derbyshire.

While pupils are trained to a high examination standard we also promote a sense of fun and enjoyment in all of our classes. In our annual charity show, every child participates on stage, giving them a chance to perform and the opportunity to share their talent and love of dance. At the end of the year we celebrate at our presentation dance and present the children with their medals. In addition, approximately twenty pupils receive achievement awards, this recognises their hard work and effort throughout the year. Established for over 25 years, our team consists of qualified dance teachers and a large compliment of support staff. All full time and voluntary staff are fully DBS checked (CRB - Criminal Records Bureau). We also follow a number of policies to ensure all pupils safety and protection whilst in our care. All of our classes are well attended, many of our pupils have been with us for many years - this is testament to our success and commitment to continued improvement. We've had a great week back after our Summer break! ☀️

It has been a pleasure giving out our amazing exam results, and so exciting that we have started some show work! 🤩

⭐️ New pupils! ⭐️

We now have space in our Rainbow and Grade classes as some of our current pupils have moved up to the next class! 🤩

🔸️Grade class (7yrs - 11yrs) - Saturday 9:30am
🔸️Rainbow class (3yrs - 7yrs) - Saturday 10:30am

All our Children's and Teen classes are held at Marlpool URC Community Hall.

Exam results are in and they are absolutely outstanding! 🤩

Our pupils have worked so hard towards their exams and it has really paid off! We are so proud of them all!

Our examiner, Mrs Laws has written some wonderful comments and has really made them personal to each dancer.

We can't wait to give them out when we start back to class on Thursday 21st August! 💃🕺

We had a fantastic exam day yesterday! 🤩

Well done to all our pupils, you all danced so brilliantly and we are so proud ❤️ We only took a few photos from our day yesterday but you all looked fabulous! ⭐️

Huge thank you to our amazing team, including our student teachers Yvonne, Lucie and Lily-May.

Thank you to our wondeful examiner Mrs Valarie Laws. You made each of our pupils feel so special and took the time to speak to them and put them at ease.

Huge congratulations to Evie (pictured below) who will be leaving us to go to university later in the year. Evie took her first exam when she was just 2.5yrs old and yesterdays exam will be her last. She is a beautiful dancer, and we will all miss her but we wish her the very best of luck! ❤️

⭐️ It's exam day tomorrow! ⭐️

All our pupils have been working so hard over the past few months, so we had some fun and games in our Grade (pictured below) and Rainbow classes this morning! 🤩

Good luck to all our pupils taking exams tomorrow. Just enjoy them and have fun, you will all be fantastic! ❤️

After tomorrows exams we will break up for the summer, and classes will resume on Thursday 14th August ☀️

Look at them go! 🤩

Olivia, Isla and Maisie have really mastered hula hooping, and at last weeks class, they just couldn't stop! 😁

Our Rainbows love dancing with the hula hoops and it's great for working on coordination and body action 🌈

Look at our fabulous Grades! 🤩

Here they are warming up at the start of their class on Saturday.😁

Our older Grades have been working on their sway in the Waltz. 💃 We're very impressed with how they have learnt the alignments, and of course their beautiful footwork! 😍 Here they are being led by 3 of our Teen helpers.

🌟 Shake your pom poms! 🌟

This year we have introduced Cheerleading Dance into all our classes and we are currently working on the opening act for our Christmas dance show! 🤩

We are also working towards our exams in July. Here's Isla (4 years) demonstrating her Foxtrot, Evie (4 years) demonstrating her Square Tango, and Joseph (8 years) demonstrating his Quickstep!

It's not just the weather that's warming up! ☀️

Here's a snippet of our Teen class doing the new contemporary warm up we leant at the recent dance lecture day. 🎶 Our Teens and Grades love it!

It's a great routine to work on those pointy toes and natural flow of contemporary dance. 💃🕺

We had a great time at the dance lecture day in Birmingham on Sunday! 💃

It was a full day of dance including Contemporary, Ballroom, Latin, Musical Theatre and Cheerleading Dance! 🤩

Our Story

Our dancing school aims to offer a broad selection of dance styles, to suit all ages and abilities. Following the National Association of Teachers of Dancing syllabus, we offer classes in Ballroom, Latin American, Freestyle and Street Dance for both children and adults alike. We take absolute beginners and if desired, train them to become fully qualified teachers in their own right.
