Here we go again... just two sessions into my June theme and, of course, my head has switched on to July! This year, to keep things fresh, Travel has changed slightly to 'Holidays' and I will be focusing on the development of the holiday industry in the UK.

As well as sharing many anecdotes and artefacts, I'm looking forward to hearing the residents' memories...
..tents, caravans, holiday camps, seaside trips, postcards, holiday souvenirs, donkeys, nobbly knees, glamorous grannies, fish n chips, ice creams... what will we unearth?!

Royalty playlist ready to go! 🎡

Max Bygraves features with his version of 'They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace' πŸ’‚β€β™‚οΈand George Formby is there by virtue of being one of Queen Elizabeth's favourite artists πŸͺ•

I'm also using 'When I fall in love' by Nat King Cole in my section about Edward and Mrs Simpson, and another patriotic classic - 'I vow to thee my country' πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

As I handed over my basket of treasures this morning, the man commented on what an eclectic mix it was. 'It makes sense to me' I replied as I mentally placed everything into the correct theme 😊

Always adding to the inventory!

Final Homelife session ticked off today, with such lovely interaction from the residents at Glenhurst Manor that it felt as fresh as the first.

One kind gentleman even shook my hand whilst he thanked me and said he'd found it 'most interesting' ❀️

As my Royalty Hamper is all packed and ready for Monday, I've turned my attention to the next mid 60s year I will be 'unlocking' at my June additional sessions. Unlock the Year has different categories for a specific year, including Fashion, and we will be discussing Mary Quant and the mini dress.

This reminded me of a discussion during last August's Fashion topic when I asked a resident if she'd been a mini skirt wearer. Her brows knotted as she said quite sharply 'Never!' and I was worried I had offended... but she quickly followed up with a wink 'I was more of a hot pants girl!' πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ©³

Last week we enjoyed a visit to the Kaisers Throne Observatory, built for Wilhelm II, former Emperor of Germany who settled in Corfu at the start of the 20th century. The 360Β° views across the island were stunning.

I was also interested to read that Wilhelm was a grandson of Queen Victoria as one section of next month's theme touches on the Royal family's German heritage, with some interesting detail on Lord Stamfordham, the private secretary to George V credited with coming up with the House of Windsor. I have some of his illuminating memos to read which reveal why adopting other historical Royal names were ruled out!

When I get home, I just have 4 Homelife sessions left before switching to Royalty at the start of June. Regulars know my costume changes each month and I'm looking forward to a lovely bit of red, white and blue with my garden party inspired outfit πŸŒΉπŸ§Ίβ€οΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Enjoying our holiday pool, not least for the great company πŸ¦β€β¬›

This particular visitor got me thinking of an expression my London nan used to use, so I looked up its origin...

"My old cocker sparrow" is a phrase, particularly in British English, with a few potential meanings, depending on context. It's often used to refer to a friend, a companion, or someone familiar. The term "cocker sparrow" can also be a slightly more informal way of saying "male sparrow," while "cockney sparrow" can refer to a woman who is glamorous and fun, and from the East End of London.

I've enjoyed seeing photos of residents celebrating World Bee Day. Here's my contribution, taken in my garden 🐝 a common carder bumble bee, one of the 276 species in the UK!

I was worried this would seem like a long week as I was cramming everyone in before my holiday, but I can honestly say I have had nine brilliant sessions, some of them being record numbers of attendees too!

I finished at the wonderful Luxurycare Eagles Mount this afternoon, where the amazing staff always throw themselves into everything, enhancing the session for their residents.

And now... out of office on... cases (not of the Curiosity style!) ready to pack...then off at 6am on Monday!

(But it's warmer here than Corfu today! πŸ™ˆπŸŒžπŸ˜‚)
